I have this closet in the new house we are buying that is kind of odd. It's located directly in front of the front door. You walk in and you see the closet door (turn right is the livingroom and left is the dining room). I'd like for this to be the "coat closet", but the floor is slanted. It's built directly above the stair case to downstairs. Anyone have any ideas what I can do with this floor situation? Think I can put a board in to level it off? Ignore the wire, that's for the cable that will be connecting the television and we'll tighten that up once we hang the tv. any ideas would be appreciated

Re: Closet Idea
I definitely think you could level it off with a board across the top. You could also put a board vertical across the front so it looks more like a step.
Why can't you use it for coats? If you need a place for boots as well, I suppose it won't cut it. Ideas:
ignore bar and add a couple shelves, use for boots/shoes and have baskets for accessories like mittens and keep purse / tray for DH wallet there, have an actual coat rack for the coats elsewhere
use for coats and accesories, purse, etc, have place for actual shoes and boots somewhere else
forget hall closet idea, use for cleaning supplies, like vacuum and brooms, add shelves half of the width across for other cleaning supplies
(all of these assume you level off the bottom)
That is an awesome idea! Thank you very much! That solves the "where to put our hiking and snow shoes" question.
That's exactly what I was afraid of, MDmom. I have a couple long winter coats and i know they'd be too long if there was a shelf there. I mentioned this to DH and he loved the idea! See.. I knew there was a reason that I wanted to be a nestie! You all have the best advice and ideas!
