work rant & lil man's eviction update

Soooooo they waited really long to try to find a temp to cover my job while I'm out on leave.  We intereviewed one chick last week.  She had decent experience and seemed like she'd be able to pick things up pretty quickly so they hired her.  She was set to start this past Tuesday.

Tuesday - she's over two hours late and you all saw my rant about her ciggie stench.

Wednesday - she's an hour late and didn't call until she actually got here.  If it were me, I'd have been on the phone at 8:31 if I was supposed to be here at 8:30.  Plus she was coughing and sneezing all over the gosh darn place.

Today - no call, no show.

On one hand, I find all of this hilarious because she had mentioned something (after hearing about some of the new hires in my department) about hoping to be kept on after I return.  On the other hand, this is really bad because...

Last night at my OB check up, I was told that while I am closed up tighter than Fort Knox, I will 100% be delivering before my due date.  Per my doc, with insulin dependant gd moms, they generally like you to go at 39 weeks at the latest.  So that means that I have 2 weeks until this guy is set to make his entrance upon the world.  That is, if I don't go into labor on my own first, but that doesn't seem very likely, they don't think.

So the fun part is now scrambling to interview candidates to replace me temporarily, hope that they aren't too good to keep over me and that my work will have me back (which I keep being told won't be a problem but without FMLA, there are no guarantees), finish my work AND carve out time to train someone if they do manage to hire someone within the next 7 business days.

Thank GOD I wasn't put on bedrest, ha!

  • eeek!  good luck with all of that :)

  • Good luck!  But don't get stressed about it.  It is their fault for waiting this long, not yours.  That was really bad planning on their part.  They will have to deal with the aftermath, not you.  You are 9 months pregnant, you don't need any more stress.

Sounds similar to the end of my time at work.  The temp showed up but she was on her cell CONSTANTLY.  I would be training her and in the middle of explaining something and I'd look over and she was texting.  I let it go the first time but then the second time I asked her if she was having a family emergency.  She says,  No I just like to talk to my friends.  What??  I told my boss that I thought she was a bad fit and what she was doing and he didn't care.  She kept playing with her phone and then I ended up going out early before she was fully trained because they waited until the last minute to get someone.  At one point I heard she was having an affair with my married boss before she left to join the military.  Strange.

Good luck! I was also induced because of the GD.  They kept telling me he was HUGE and he was 8lbs 1 oz.  Their estimate was over 10 lbs.  Don't get too freaked out by what they tell you!

  • Good luck mama!

and don't worry about the replacement stuff, if you go out before let them figure it out. not worth the stress.

  • Mother of god they are letting her stay on.  I am praying to god I can get her trained by COB tomorrow and just finish my own work next week.

But thanks for the kind words ladies!

  • Holy crap I can't believe he will be here in t-minus two weeks, crazy! I also wouldn't worry about the replacement too much. It is their responsibility and they were given a lot of notice. Good luck!
  • Two weeks! Eek, how did that happen so fast?
  • I don't understand how people just blow off work like that.

I can't believe you will have a kid in a couple weeks. Time just goes by so fast.   Oh, and from a previous post: your nursery is cute!
