Florida stereotypes
What do you think people outside of Florida and the immediate states think living in Florida is like? When I was on a mission trip for the Summer in Iowa people often asked me if I was from Alabama and they couldn't believe all of the country stuff I did on a regular basis like mudding, camping, fishing, cow tipping (when I was younger) and other outdoorsy stuff. They all thought if you lived in Florida you shopped all the time and only went to the beach. I think it might be more like that in South Florida, but it's still pretty country. WDYT?

Mostly, I get people thinking it's beautiful sunshine year round. They're surprised when I tell them the temps in the winter. Most of my family is from Michigan, and while I realize that in comparison it IS warmer here in the winter. But, it does get cold here....at least in the northern part. People also think of it as one big vacation spot....which it is. But just like any other state, it doesn't apply to the whoooole state. When we were in Hawaii, a lot of the locals we talked to would ask where we're from. They'd all say, "And you came here!??" To which we replied, "Um.....YA!" I mean, I think our beaches are beautiful. But this ain't Maui! haha
I was part of that group when I first moved here. I did NOT want to move here from Michigan. The only silver lining for me at the time was the "picture" in my head of what Florida is. I remember thinking it would be all beaches, palm trees and Disney World everywhere. If you've ever driven from I-65 through Flomaton and Century.....you can imagine my disappointment. I believe my exact words when we crossed the line were ".....THIS is FLORIDA?!"
I've lived in North Florida all my life and I've never truly done any of these things. Sure I have gone fishing on occasion and been to girl scout camp, but not even those things on a regular basis.
To kind of confirm the stereotype, we actually DID go shopping often and to the beach.

Haha, ditto! Except I grew up in Central Florida so that's another area that doesn't do those things.
And to boot, we went to Disney every summer and most MLK weekends. And when we were in HS, we got annual passes to Islands of Adventure and went there a lot. When we weren't at the beach or shopping.
Tallahassee = South GA to me
Being from MD when I moved to FL people just assumed that I would always have a great tan from being at the beach all the time.
Yep. All of this was pretty typical for my childhood.
