Jury Duty is over...some details inside
The defendant was charged with four counts of rape of a child. We found him guilty of all four charges.
It was definitely not an easy case to sit through, and my heart just breaks for this girl. The defendant is her uncle (she was 10 when it happened; 12 now; developmentally delayed so that mentally, she's more like 5). While it didn't have any bearing on this case, she's also been sexually abused by her father and by two cousins. Her name is Sarah. Please say a prayer for her. This little girl desperately needs genuine love and affection (which I also don't think she's getting from her mom or anyone else in this dysfunctional family).
It makes me so angry that people like this can procreate like rabbits, and I struggle with infertility.

No...the jury doesn't stay for sentencing. I'm going to keep an eye on the news, though, to see if they say. I believe that the cousins are under investigation in a different court (juvenile), and the dad was already investigated back in 2004 (I don't know the results of that investigation...but I do know that Sarah was sent to stay with him every other weekend and that her mom has been in an on-again-off-again relationship with him for years; their youngest kid is only 18 months old or something like that). There was a mention of another possible investigation of the dad based on things that have allegedly happened more recently.
ETA: Also, to show that the dysfunction is on both her dad's and her mom's side of the family...the uncle/defendant is the dad's older brother. The two cousins mentioned are on the mom's side of the family...and are currently living with Sarah, her siblings, her mom, and her mom's mom. Which just blows my mind that they're living with her.

That poor child, my heart just breaks for her. As someone that has been molested, it is very difficult to get over. I can't imagine having it done to you by multiple people and then having developmental delays. I just feel so bad for that poor girl.
And I agree with you Carrie, life is so unfair when wonderful people can't have children but people that have no regard for other people can have children at will.

OMG, how can the state allow the child to remain in the custody of someone putting her in this environment??? Absolutely sickening.
I'm happy that it's over and that you did your part to hold that man accountable for his crimes.
