A while back, I posted about being interested in having chickens. Our new garage left our shed empty, which I turned into a coop. Well, we now have 11 hens (someone was giving away their mature chickens)...and I LOVE having chickens. DH does too. And Adrian enjoys watching them. We have only had them for 5 days...and already have 5 eggs. I think I will be a loony chicken mama from now on. Just thought I'd give you the follow up.

Re: chickens!!!
I've always wondered -- what do you do when you want to go on vacation? You'd have to get chicken sitters, right?
We get someone to watch the cats when we go and she stops 2x a day (to and from work). So she'll just make sure the chicks have food and water when she stops. They're really low maintenance. And the pay is fresh chicken eggs. That's a better payoff than having cats..don't get much from cats.
