For those of you who are PG away from their home country, what did you do for a shower?
Did you have gifts sent to you? Did you forgo the shower all together?

I didn't have a shower. People gave M gifts when we went home for a visit when he was 6 months old.
We had a registry which no one knew about. It was mostly for me to keep track of what I wanted and my mom bought stuff from it.
My H went to the states when I was 7 months and a bunch of friends happened to send me gifts at the same time. So, I made a shower with just me and H when he returned opening his suitcases filled with stuff he got, and the packages from friends.
Then my mom surprised me with a skype shower that just had family there. They brought the gifts that family gave me when they came to visit.
My H's German coworker's German wife offered to throw me a shower, but since it's not common in these parts, I didn't know her too well, and I was uncomfortable with the idea, I said no thanks. I kinda felt she was doing it more to promote her business anyway (and was proven right a few months later).
Women usually have showers here, so I will probably have one here. I have already had a friend and MIL mention it in passing. Registries don't seem to be as popular here though.
I will probably end up registering on Amazon because they have a universal registry and can add Aussie stores/items on it which will save a ton on shipping. I think my friends and family in the US will most likely want to buy us gifts and will hopefully be able to order them off there.
