I'm completely underwhelmed by this news. I wonder what could make the Slutty Pumpkin have a "pivotal role", I'm thinking Ted's getting back together with Victoria and will then do something stupid with the SP.

If they brought Victoria back just to have Ted do something shitty to her again, I will be really (irrationally) annoyed. It would be irrational because I realize it's just a t.v. show, but if Ted screws Victoria over again, he's just an ass.
ETA: And I can't watch Katie Holmes in anything without thinking about Dawson's Creek.

As for Katie Holmes, I haven't liked her since Dawson's Creek.

I would have thought they would have picked someone with a little more of a "wow" factor and acting/personality skills. I'm sure though that they'll make it work, I have yet to see an episode of this show where I was underwhelmed, they knock it out of the park every time.

Definitely. I'd be surprised if this happens, though, because I thought the point of Ted's long-winded story to his kids was not only to tell them how he met their mother but also to show how he matured into the kid of guy who really deserved to be with her. And since it's assumed he's going to meet her either this season or next season (since rumor has it that they're ending after Season 8), I think it'd really push the character backward if he cheats on Victoria AGAIN. I'm curious as to what role Victoria's going to play in his story ... is she there so he can apologize and bring closure to their relationship, or is she there to get back together with him, or does she play a part in him meeting the mother?
The choice of Katie Holmes for the Slutty Pumpkin surprised me. Is she even relevant anymore? They brought Katy Perry in at the height of her popularity, and I guess Britney Spears was still pretty popular when she guest starred (though she was a terrible actress, blech). I wonder if Katie is a fan of the show and actually requested to do a guest spot?
