Cari-recipes (FINALLY!)

Shepards Pie (Not a formal recipe, just my mom's best guess at the measurements)

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 large green pepper, chopped
  • 2 large carrots, chopped
  • 2 beef bullion cubes
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 2 Tbs butter/margarine
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package frozen corn
  • Corn starch or flour
  • Gravy Master (optional)
  • Mashed potatos (can use instant or real) - about 2 cups made
  • Chives
  • Paprika
  • Pamesan cheese
  1. Saute beef and veggies (not corn) in a frying pan, drain fat if any.
  2. Add bullion cubes and 1 cup of water, thicken with corn starch or flour. I usuallly add Gravy Master for color but its not necessary.
  3. Pam Spray a 9x12 pan, pat beef/vegetable mixture into the bottom of the pan.
  4. Sprinkle frozen corn over the beef layer.
  5. Mix chives into the mashed potatos, pat on top of the corn.
  6. Melt 2 Tablespoons butter/margarine, poor over the top of the potatos.
  7. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and paprika.
  8. Bake 45 min in a 350 degree oven, or until browned and bubbly.
  9. Allow to cool for 10 minutes or so (to solidify a bit) then serve and ENJOY!

Re: Cari-recipes (FINALLY!)

  • And here is Ziggy's favorite chili recipe. It's AWESOME with venison, but of course we don't that very often. Its also pretty darn good with beef :)

     http://www.food.com/recipe/bowers-hunters-chili-190267

    Bower's Hunter's Chili

Total Time: 1 hrs 15 mins

    Prep Time: 45 mins

    Cook Time: 30 mins

    Directions:

    1. Panfry the steak or stew meat in a bit of olive oil. Splash on a little soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and Grill Mates Montreal seasoning (excellent)on the meat. Then cut up into 1/2 bite size.
    2. Brown your ground meat in a pan and drain any grease (There will be very little with venison).
    3. At the same time, in a large pot, put the beans (draining them prior to adding), tomatoes, con carne, chili powder, spaghetti sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, splash of Tabasco (to taste), pepper, etc. Let this heat on medium-low while browning & seasoning the meat.
    4. Add both the browned ground meat and cut up steak pieces into the large pot of beans. Let it simmer for about 1/2 of an hour or more. Stir occasionally so as not to scorch the chili at the bottom of the pan.
    5. Serve with grated cheese (the pre-grated Mexican variety in a bag works well) and corn bread is a nice compliment.

  • The chili recipe sounds delicious!  I wonder if I could do it.  That is a lot of ingredients for me the non cook!
