Poll for lurkers/newbies!

When I was a lurker and a newbie I felt like I already "knew" everyone on the board and had great affection for certain posters.  Now I'm curious about you ladies! So for fun- if you are a lurker or a newbie:

1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro?

2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?

3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking?

4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far?

Adding a Burden

Re: Poll for lurkers/newbies!

  • Stupid question: When do you stop being a newbie?  I know I haven't been on very long (although I did lurk for a little while before my first post), but I don't think I'm considered an oldy either.  I try to contribute when I can, but am I around enough to be a regular?  lol

  • 1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro? I have lurked for quite some time - a year or so. I had a different SN at one point but rarely posted on TN in general. I only started to post recently.

    2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?   I guess my favs are the following because of their sweet, upbeat nature, ability to keep strong - iloveblueberries, Rebann, coreysmamma, kelnyc (partial maybe because I'm from NY as well), there are a few others, but I can't recall at the moment. I am also visual and can't see pics at work and that's how I remember some of you.

    3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking? I'm not sure if being sensitive would be considered part of the culture. I try to think before I type.

    4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far? For now I am going to say charting.

  • 1. I've been lurking since Jan/Feb. after I went to my OBGYNN about fertility issues.

    2. I don't really have a favorite.

    3. + 4. To listen and be supportive even if you aren't an active poster. The most valuable thing I've learned is that there are people out there who share the same struggles with ttc and feel the same way I do. It makes me feel a little bit less alone.

  • 1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro? I lurked for probably 6-8 months steadily and on and off before that? I didn't really know if I belonged since while I was having TTTC, it was our 2nd and I was very worried about offending anyone that was struggling conceiving their 1st. Once we started getting more aggressive with our IF treatments, I knew that I needed more support and felt this board could offer that to me. 2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?  I'm horrible at names. I really liked seeing others with PCOS that I could relate to and learn from. I appreciated kelnyc's frankness. 3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking? That it was a board of seasoned, knowledgable ttc'ers. It wasn't about trying all the old tricks, tips and old wives tales. It was more about a scientific approach, knowing your body and proven methods. That there was a ton of support and friendships to benefit from. On the same note, it could also be intimidating to see all the close knit friendships and know that you don't fit in those circles and kind of feel like the awkward new kid at school that doesn't have anywhere to sit at lunch time. 4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far? What to expect from different IF treatments. That I'm not the only person that has been emotionally taxed by this process.

I identify people by their siggy pictures long before I recognize them by screen name.  I definitely recognize your shoes, so that makes you a regular to me, but couldn't have said your s/n if you paid me to.

Good to know!  And see I'm the opposite.  I can't see pics at work where I do most of my posting, so I identify screen names better.  When I do occasionally post at home I often think, "Oh so that's what so and so looks like!"  lol

  • 1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro?  I consider myself a newbie/lurker on this board even though I've been lurking for over a year.  I gave a brief intro many months ago but I don't post regularly enough to expect anyone to recognize me :)  (I'm more active on my local nest board).

    2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)? Shan, Deatons, Blueberries, Rebaann, Panda, Kelnyc, RockaBye, & lilou :)  I have been following most of them for a while and root for you guys all the time!!!

    3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking?  There is so much support on this board, stick around and be nice.  After going through so much of the journey of TTC with one another I am truely happy for all of the regulars who get their BFPs and I am heartbroken anytime someone M/Cs :(

    4. What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far?  All the info about temping, CM, recommendations for TCOYF, etc have been really helpful!!

no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!

  • 1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro?  On and off for about 2 months, between the nest and the bump there seemed to be a few options for TTC/TTTC so I wasn't sure where I would fit in

    2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?  I haven't really learned any screen names yet, so I'll go with everyone lol

    3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking? That everyone is very supportive no matter what someone is going through and maybe if they don't have the answer they still listen or point to where it can be found. I also agree with this:

    imageKSbride_to_be:
That there was a ton of support and friendships to benefit from. On the same note, it could also be intimidating to see all the close knit friendships and know that you don't fit in those circles and kind of feel like the awkward new kid at school that doesn't have anywhere to sit at lunch time.

     4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far? That I don't know that much about my body as I thought I did, which seems sad but it's true. I've never really paid any attention to what my body was doing and just by reading what some of you are going through it made me realize that my body was doing the same.  Also, to stay postitive :)

    1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro? - an embarrassingly long time! on and off since late 2009. it was about 6 months after DH and I moved in together and baby fever hit me hard (we were engaged, but still a while away from our wedding, so I felt too weird to post).

    2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)? - I can't choose favorites! I try to keep up with as many people as possible. Lately I've been drawn to others that are TTA like myself.

    3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking? - that there is so much support here and such a great community. I guess that's why when I started looking, I just couldn't help myself! And also why I've introed myself so early even though we will be TTA for at least a year.

    4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far? - that TTC is not as easy as it seems! it helps to have a more realistic idea of what goes into it, and has piqued my interest in charting.

  • Hi! I introduce myself a few weeks ago but thought I'd join the thread. 1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro? I lurked for about a day before I introduced myself. 2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?  I've only been here a short time and I am horrible with names but Becky for sure is inspiring and courageous. I think about her offline too. 3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking? I thnk you ladies are great and hope to be a part of it. 4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far? That PCOS (if I have it) is more normal than I thought and if I do have it (will know more Nov. 2) I have an incredible community to help me through it as I hope to do so for them.

    1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro?

    About 2 months

    2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?

No favorites yet, there are such a massive number of posts I have to admit to skimming

    3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking?

It's a little intimidating over here.  There are ladies that are honestly trying to help and there are a couple of posters that seem harsh as I don't know the back story (MUDD????)

    4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far?
I really appreciate the break downs of different treatments so that I will have knowledge of what to expect if we have a "delay" or "hijack" of our plans.

  • I'm a new lurker so I feel like I shouldn't even be answering this, haha!

    1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro?

On and off maybe for a few months? More frequently in the last month or so. We're not TTC until probably next summer so I feel like I don't really have much to contribute or much reason to really spend a ton of time here yet.

    2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?  None yet, haven't done enough lurking apparently :)

    3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking? Everyone seems really supportive of each other!

    4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far? That sometimes it's not easy and can be really tough emotionally :(

I've seen a few posts referencing Mudd.  At first I thought it was an acronym, then it seemed to be a person.  Most reply's in threads that mention Mudd seem very angry and judgmental.

Not sure if I"m a newbie or not... I post when I can but  sometimes I don't have anything to add.

    1. How long have you been lurking/did you lurk before giving an intro? Started lurking in March.  Gave an intro in June shortly after my M/C I had lurked at several boards and felt like there was the most support offered here.

    2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?   Everything Aim/Panda related makes me giggle.

    3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking?  This board is all for support but doesn't welcome drive by's and questions that people don't want real answers to.

    4.  What's the most valuable thing you learned about TTC from this board so far? That I have a short LP and there are things I can do to fix it. That there are others going through the exact same thing or close to the same thing that I am and they get it. My DH is a really supportive and loving guy. But sometimes when I look at him and start crying because 7 more people I know got their BFP's and it wasn't me... he looks at me like I'm just a little bit crazy and i know everyone on this board knows how I'm feeling... I'm 100%happy for most of these people but I'm sad for me. I was at place before I started posting I felt pretty alone in my thoughts...

I've lurked for a few months now, and posted an intro during the summer.

    2. Who are some of your favorite regular posters (and why)?

No favorites, I just like learning about different posters, you girls seem to be so supportive of each other.

    3. What's the most valuable thing you learned about the "culture" of this board from lurking?

Again, you girls are very supportive, but no drive by BFPs are wanted.
