My "moment" yesterday

So yesterday, something happened to me that could've been SO much worse and SO much more embarassing. It's still bad, but could've been worse...

One of the docs I work for offered to buy lunch yesterday and asked if I would go pick it up. Sure (get's me out of the office for a bit). So when I was leaving, I asked where his card was. He then said it was in his car and to get the key. He told me the make and color (silver) of the car and pointed in the direction of his car. So I grab the key, walk outside and go in the direction of said car. I open the door and start looking for his card where he said it was. Well it was no where to be found. I look in the console and all around the area where he told me the card would be. After a few minutes, I walk back in and say I can't find it. He says, it should be in plain sight and I said, all I saw were a bunch of gum packets. He then gives me a weird look and says "I don't have any gum in my car." He asks the CRNA if he could pay for it, so he gives me his keys and tells me where his wallet is in his truck and walks to the back door with me. He says "did you go to that silver car right there?" I said, no, I went to that silver car over there, where that man is walking to. It then clicked...OBVIOUSLY I had been IN the wrong car. He says oh, that's Hal's car. I'm thinking, oh crap. He then says "Hey Hal! How are you?" Hal: "Oh hey Mark, how's it going?" "Oh good, just rummaging through your car." Oh my gosh, I can't remember the last time I turned that red. Of course we were both cracking up. Thankfully Hal didn't understand what he said and got in his car and left. Then of course, Mark had to go back in the procedure room and tell everyone in there what happened. Ohhh...by the way, this was Hal Smith...you know, who owns a crap ton of restaurants, no big deal. Embarrassed

All I have to say about that is, my timing could not have been more perfect. What if he would've came out and I was IN his car???? OH MY GOSH!

  • Awkward! Did he not lock his doors?  I wonder if he noticed anything moved in his car and just shrugged it off as being forgetful.

  • Hahaha! I used to work for Hal Smith and I remember he was so intimidating, good thing he was friendly toward you! :)
  • So OF COURSE the only thing I got out of this story is..what kind of car does Hal Smith drive? I am thinking a Mercedes - one like Bob Stoops'.
  • Everyone take note: Hal Smith does not lock his car.

Ha, I was wondering this too!

That would've been soooo awkward if he saw you in his car! Glad your timing was perfect!
