Re: POLL: Dying your kids hair

  • I don't remember ever asking my mom if I could die my hair, but I would say it started around 15 or 16 with a friend and I doing highlights in the bathroom after school . . .

I think that I am pretty easy going about personal style, and I don't see any harm in it if it isn't a distraction. I already gel spike, or Edward tossle Zac's hair when we go out, I wouldn't be surprised if I gave the boy blonde highlights when he was 8.

  • I got my hair highlighted for the first time at 16.  My brother did the whole spikey bleached almost white thing every 5-6 weeks, though, from when he was probably 13ish until he was probably 17, and my parents never told him no.  I don't think it's that big a deal (within reason) at that age range, but I don't know that I'd pay for it as frequently as my mom must have.

  • I don't remember how old I was, but I was definitely in HS and it was just highlights.

I was definitely not 8 years old and I definitely did not get blue streaks in my hair... unlike my niece. ((sigh))

  • I think that I was about 14 or 15 when I first got highlights. I didn't actually dye my hair until I was about 22. I hope that my kids come to me and ask me about dying their hair when they're ready instead of just surprising me with it one day.

  • I was 12 or 13 when I first got highlights in my hair. So, that's probably around the age I would let Tessa or Kellen (if he really wanted to). I don't think it's that big of a deal since it's not permanent.
  • It's a little different for African American hair, but I refuse to put any chemicals ( relaxers) in our daughter's hair until she is 18.
  • D*mn sure not in elementary school!  I can't believe the little girls in 1st-2nd grade that have highlights or fully dyed hair.  It makes me so mad!
