QOTD - Thursday (re: honeycrisp apples)

This is similar to yesterday's question....

Re: QOTD - Thursday (re: honeycrisp apples)

  • No

I think they're overpriced and overhyped. Give me my Fuji's for a $1 less per pound any day. Literally any day, since they're available year round.

  • like'em but not as much as macintosh and empire

  • They are the only red apples I remotely enjoy.  I like them more than granny smith, too!  So...  Yes Especially since they are getting easier to find for only $2/lb.  $3 was ridic!!
  • Yes I love them. I think they're the perfect apple - very crisp, sweet and tart at the same time. I hate that they cost twice as much as other apples though. I bought a ton of them at an apple orchard this year for $1/pound, and I hope they last a while.

When I can't get honeycrisp, or if I don't want to spend $2.50/lb on them at the store, I get fujis.

  • I enjoy them on occasion, but won't pay more than I would pay for other apples.  Luckily orchards don't mark them up so we have a solid supply. All fresh apples in the fall are delicious.  Fujis are my mainstay the rest of the year.  I like crisp and sweet.

    This exactly.

  • I'm indifferent (but the sleepy kind) Sleep

I had one or two a few years ago.  It didn't rock my world, but it's certainly better than a boring old Red Delicious.  I don't love them enough to join the annual hunt for them.

  • Yes  They're yummy.  I won't pay much more for them than the usual apples we buy, but I'll gravitate towards those if they're all in the same range.

  • I like em, but I had one yesterday that was so sour that I got that funny feeling in my mouth like I was sucking a lemon.  It made me pretty sad, since I paid $3.49 a lb for it.

  • Confused for me. I like them, but I don't think they are SO much better than any other apple. I'm partial to Granny Smith and Pink Lady apples.
  • Yes

They seem much more well-balanced between sweet and tart than other varieties. They are the only apple the hubz and I agree on as well.

  • Yes

I love them. I don't think I've ever had a bad one (unlike the Fujis I just bought from Giant, which are somehow crisp but totally tasteless).

Same here. I didn't think they were worth all the hype.

  • Yes

    I hate mushy, mealy apples!

  • I don't think I've ever had one. ( I know that is against the rules of being a DC nestie)!  I get a veggie and fruit box delivered so I always forget to look thorough the produce section of the grocery. I really need to remember to try them!

Lol.  All of this - exactly.

  • I love them.
    ? ?????????????????????????????????????????
  • I don't think I've ever had one... Gala apples are my favorite. DH loves Granny Smiths, but I find them way too tart.
  • They are ok...I will buy them if the only other apples available are the "boring" apples, but if I am going to buy an "expensive" apple, I like the Sonya apples much, much better. The best apple I have ever had. I've only found them at Harris Teeter though, and they are kind of expensive, $3/lb, and since we eat a lot of apples, that adds up fast. But they are so yummy, they beat Honeycrisp hands down.
  • I love them. I am eating one now, in fact.

  • Confused

I honestly don't think I've ever had one! I hate red delicious though, so if it's similar in skin, I want no part of one.

    Pink Lady is the BOMB.

I also prefer fujis.  honeycrisps are too tart for me.  my husband loves them though.

  • EH.  I think they're overrated.
