Ever been to a B&B??

I think I want to disappear, I'm in a funk and a night away (alone) seems like the perfect medication.

I'm thinking a local B&B because I've always wanted to go to one but I don't think that's up DH and Zac's alley - so it'd be perfect for this, right?

Are they as charming as I invision them? Or should I just get a hotel room?

Re: Ever been to a B&B??

  • Eh.  When I want to get away and be away from people, I like to go somewhere where I won't have to see or deal with people... my B&B experience is that there is always someone hanging around who wants to be overly friendly and helpful.  I prefer the anonymity and solitude of a hotel.  Just me, though.

This is what I think of in a B&B. I view them you staying in a guest room of someone's house.

Now for a night away, I would so get a hotel, order room service and just chill alone

  • Yea a  B&B, a true one, you'd have communal breakfast with other people and may not fullfill your solitude requirement.

The rooms however, of the ones I've been to, are heavenly.  Huge big sleigh beds, feather duvets, awesome bathrooms/tubs/showers, etc.  All very charming, yes.

I'm open to hanging out with people I have no beef with. :)

I guess I get the "grandma" or "favorite aunt" feeling from a B&B and that's kind of comfort would be nice. Maybe I should just spend the night at my grandma's house .... except when I do that I have to sleep on a twin bed that sinks in the middle or on the tweed couch. Er -

  • Then I would recommend the B&B.  Yes, people can be chatty.  But for my money, you won't find a better breakfast at some hotel.

If you want to be alone other than breakfast, you can easily just get a bottle of wine and hole up with the tv.

    Good luck!

    Anniversary
  • We got married at one (www.maisonbeliveau.com) so I've stayed there a few times.  I also work for them on occasion and know the owners very well.  It is my understanding that there are definitely VERY different "levels" of B&Bs.  Some are old houses stuffed with old furniture where you can rent a room, and sometimes you share a bath.

Others have pretty generous, large, clean, updated and often luxurious rooms in really cool and interesting houses.

Theirs is the latter.  Amazing property with walking trails, ponds, etc.  Pool table, library of books, movies and games.  Stunning rooms, flat screen TVs (that you can see from the jacuzzi tubs.  Walk in showers. King beds with awesome linens.  FABULOUS food, wine and cheese with the owners, etc.   And they are super easy to talk to.

Anyway, I would do it again for sure-at the right place!
