anyone know anything about blood types?
I know I always come up with the wierdest things...
Well DH and I were having our crazy conversations and we started talking about blood types. My brother is AB- and my mom is O+.... Well we googled it and apparently its IMPOSSIBLE for her to have a kid thats AB- so DH is convinced that my brother isn't really my brother. Does anyone know anything about blood types? I mean is this true? and if it is would you say anything?
Re: anyone know anything about blood types?
LOL maybe the information is just incorrect? Yes, it is not possible for an O to have an AB child.
ETA: what blood type is your dad?
ETA2: also, it's totally possible for an Rh+ mom to have a Rh- kid, so that part isn't wrong

blood types are co-dominant unlike other things, so you basically get expression of everything. An O person is negative for everything (almost a non-blood type), while an AB person is positive for both of the possible genes - and AB people always get an A from one parents and a B from the other.
My guess is that your family members have their blood types mixed up or some REALLY crazy genetics happened

I'm with this. I was told as a kid what my blood type was..never had a reason to question it. All of a sudden I needed surgery and there was talk about my blood type and it was different then what I was told before.
If you don't have any other reason to suspect your brother isn't your brother, I'm guessing someone is wrong with what blood type they are.
Newlyweds since 2007
I was glad to have DS in my room at Providence too, except when he went out for his circumcision.
When my brother was born in MO my mom didn't get to keep him in her room the whole time and she also shared a room with someone...
1) I don't know what blood type my dad is. All I know is he was a positive. I am A+ and my older brother is A+.
2) I know that it is possible for the Rh factors. I asked my mom if she ever had to have any shots and she said no... thats another reason I am curious
ETA: I can't ask my mom bc she always freaks out when we talk about him and I can't ask him bc he passed away 4 years ago
My other question is: Is diabetes hereditary? No one in our family has it, buy my brother was diagnosed at age 14 with type 1. Other than that he doesn't look like my mother or my father or anybody else in our family but looks can be deceiving.
the shot is only necessary if the mom is negative and the baby is positive (not sure if that's what you meant here), so she could have had him and not had shots
I think there is a strong genetic correlation with type 1 diabetes, but like with a lot of diseases, it isn't really 100%. I'm not sure how unusual it is to only have one person with it, but I guess it's a possibility.
