Should I re-size my rings?

I'm 10 weeks pp and my wedding rings still don't fit (I can get them on but they're too tight to actually wear).  I haven't been able to wear them since May and I'm really sad I can't wear them yet.  I go back to work in 2.5 weeks and really want to be able to wear them....I don't know why it bother me so much, but it does.

Should I get them re-sized or wait it out a while longer?  FWIW, I've been this weight before and been able to wear them which frustrates me even more Sad.

Re: Should I re-size my rings?

  • I've heard of other women who had to permanently resize their rings after pregnancy/childbirth, and I really don't think it weight had much to do with it. You know how some women's feet permanently get bigger? Maybe it's like that. Or, perhaps you're retaining water and a little swollen for one reason or another. I would hold out just a bit longer to see if anything changes, but I know you're so ready to wear them!

  • I would probably give it a little bit longer. I was still pretty swollen pp.

  • Another vote for waiting.  Buy you something cheap to wear in the meantime so you aren't bothered by being ring-less! :)

  • I'd also wait. When the weather cools off, my hands get cold and my ring looser. Maybe that will help your rings fit.

  • I would wait.

This also sounds like a good time to talk your H into a "push gift" - maybe a simple ring with the birthstone of your son or your birthstone?  You can wear that instead.

a simple ring with the birthstone of your son or your birthstone?

I'm planning on asking for this for Mother's Day Wink.  DS's birthstone is ruby and mine and DH's is emerald so either a ruby ring or an emerald/ruby ring...

I have an emerald ring my mom gave me in HS that I've been wearing, I'm just bummed I can't wear my wedding rings yet.  I miss them.  Thanks girls!

  • I was just talking to my friend about this.  She had her baby in January, and never had to remove her rings during her whole pregnancy, until after he was born, and that's when her fingers swelled.  And now she's still not able to wear them.  She had a cheap-o from Target to hold her over until she decides if she wants to resize them or not.

  • I say wait a bit longer.  I will also say that once my rings did fit again it took a bit of time for them to feel right on my finger.  You know, like when you wear a new ring the first few days, it just feels odd.  I totally forgot about that feeling until I put them back on.

I always felt like people looked at me as an unwed mother, I hate feeling judged like that.  Like you, I was super anxious to get them back on my hand.  Make sure you are drinking lots of water - like you need me to tell you that.  ;)
