Whitney *Disclaimer for potential spoilers*

Did anyone watch?  I only watched because DH mentioned it.  After the opening scenes I told him I thought the laugh track was annoying and he said it was taped in front of a live studio audience, which the show then went on to mention at the first commercial break.  I think my favorite character is actually the drunk blonde friend.

  • I wasn't blown away by the premier, I'll try giving the second episode a shot. It struck me as trying too hard...not that funny, and she waves her hands around way too much!

  • I have always been annoyed with her as a comedian and I will not watch this show.  Just from the previews, she seems to be trying WAY to hard!

  • I also thought it was trying too hard, but the scene with all the paperwork was hialrious!  His expressions were priceless and spot on.

  • I thought it was okay. I agree the laugh track was really annoying. I think we'll give it a few episodes to decide.

I usually just lurk here, but this bolded part is word-for-word what happened in my house last night!  It was like they were cutting the laughing short or something??  It annoyed me.

My favorite part - when she made him fill out all the forms!

  • I thought it was SO funny. I'll be watching.

  • I thought it was pretty terrible. The "live studio audience" sounded an awful lot like canned laughter to me. But at any rate--audible audience laughter on a sitcom is so 10 years ago. I thought the boyfriend and the sassy best friend are good characters and did a great job with their material but everything else was bleck.

Guess it's just the two of us!

  • My husband and I thought it was horrible! they were trying too hard and the laughing was annoying! Will not watch again.

Me three but I think Whitney is funny in general. I laughed out loud several times and there's very few shows that make me laught like that.

  • As usual NBC used every single joke in the episode for the trailers, so there was no "mystery" left for the actual show, like they did with Up All Night.  I fell asleep halfway through.  The laughter was annoying.  I will give it another shot, but I feel like I'm scarred for life watching this chick in too many interviews promoting the show.  She has excessive ADHD and it's quite annoying.
  • i dont understand the point in using a live studio audience if you are going to make them sound like a laugh track. normal people do not laugh like that, nor do they laugh that often.

my vote goes in the "annoying" camp.

  • I thought it was terrible. The boyfriend was the best part, but not enough to keep me watching. I stopped and deleted it about 15-20 mins in, I just couldn't stand anymore.

  • Just got around to watching on DVR.... the funniest parts for me were delivered by people other than Whitney and even then they weren't really LOL funny.

I also agree that some parts would have been funnier had I not already seen them in the trailer and constant commercials.

As for the "laugh track"... it's so weird how they do that even though there is a live audience. I went to a show and before it started taping they recorded us doing a variety of (fake) responses- soft laugh, heavy laugh, serious expressions, etc. (It was a talk show.) So we knew that they would use those bits when the show was edited and the people in tv land would not really know when we laughed and how hard or for how long, etc.
