My cat Murphy was diagnosed with diabetes. The vet gave me insulin to dispense, which I've done regularly and religiously. He didn't feel that it was necessary to change Murph's diet, or do any follow-up testing. His advice was to wait a month to see how the insulin worked. He was good for about 3 weeks. This last week he's been really bad, drinking water nonstop, hardly eating, pissing like there's no tomorrow, vomiting, and listless.. He's lost about 10 lbs in 3 months, and it keeps dropping. My vet sent me to a larger facility for guidance. They did bloodwork, and his numbers are off the charts. His sugar, sodium and cholesterol are dangerously high. They tried to get us to board him for 3 nights to try and regulate him. However, we don't really have $3k to do that. They just gave him fluids and antibiotics and advice. We were basically told his quality of life is diminished. If he doesn't turn around within the next 3 days, we were told it would be best to put him down.
When the $h!t rains, it really does pour.
