Can I just make fun of someone?

It's coming up on November, which is the month that all of the babies in our play group turn 1.

Birthday parties are being planned.

One mom wrote "Come join the fun in our casual backyard get together! Enjoy a jump castle, a balloon artist, and a face painter!"

The kid is turning ONE. He is her only child.

Re: Can I just make fun of someone?

  • that is a lot of activity for any birthday party, let alone a 1 year old's!  I can see having one of those things, but not all three!

  • Also, that does not sound like a "casual" backyard party.

Unless your last name is Spelling, of course.

  • This reminds me of a chapter in the Three Martini Playdate (should be required reading for all new parents... I especially love the chapter called "Say 'No' to your kids... it's a kick.")

    Anyway:

There is a whole chapter on first birthdays that basically says a first birthday should be a time for parents to celebrate the fact that they survived the first sleepless, confused, scared and crazy year. As PP mentioned, the child is not going to remember any aspect of this day. Give him a cupcake to destroy, throw some burgers and dogs on the grill and enjoy a martini, or two... Drinks

  • Ginger, that is insane.

I just got a STD for one in a private room at the aquarium and one for a party booked at an amenity center.

I guess I'm the only one having a house party. DS is so deprived! However will he explain this to his therapist in 20 years?!

    Stick out tongue

  • I feel so bad for your child. Someone call CPS!

    Seriously? A STD for a 1st birthday party? This isn't a wedding.
  • That is insane.  I always thought 1st birthdays should just be beers and food at your house.  I guess my future kids are damned too.

I am doing a theme, but I think I have spent maybe $40 on supplies. Everything else is just to balance the theme out and is coming from Wal Mart or Target (forks, plates).

Plus I am doing most of the menu myself. No catering here!

  • What theme are you doing, Punky?

I literally just started even thinking about DS's party on Thursday. I have bought nothing (not even invitations). I suck.

    Dr. Seuss!

Well DS is a week older, and I just started planning Friday. So technically, you are ahead of the game here! LOL

LOL Perfect! I'll take advantage of my 5 extra planning days haha

    Off to look up invitations...

  • Wow!  Now I feel like I totally deprived Lil.  We had my in-laws, sister, DH's sister, her husband and my nephew.  There were only 8 of us here, we grilled, made a fruit salad, and bought a cake.  I wish someone had told me that I needed STD's, and aquarium, and bouncy houses.  I guess I'll start saving up now for a re-do for her 2nd b-day.

Gracious, Kiwi. I feel sorry for your child.

    And your husband too!

  • A couple of years ago DH and I attended a party like this.  We were the only couple there without children.  It was a 1st birthday, and there was a bouncy, a magician, and a face painter.  Everyone with kids was having a great time...there had to have been 100 people there.  It was insane.  I didn't really understand why they had all the stuff...the babies (twins) couldn't walk yet so it wasn't like they were enjoying the bouncy.
