I realize this is a totally random question. I also realize that every person's body reacts differently to pregnancy.
How did pregancy/labor affect your hips? Some of you may remember that a couple of years back I had a lot of trouble with my hips, specifically my right one. Today, I can carry out normal activities without pain, but I still feel that its different, and my right side, from my armpit to below my hip, always feels signifiantly stretched out. I've pretty much accepted (as frustrating as it is), that after thousands of dollars spent on chriopractic care and physical therapy, that it will never feel quite normal again. But I'm terrified as to what pregnancy will do to it...I'm afraid I'll, at best, end up on a lot of bed rest and miss a lot of work, or at worst, end up partially paralyzed. I brought this up with my gyno when we were discussing pregnancy, and she sort of waved away (dismissed?) my fears with a "Bodies do funny things during pregnancy. There are plenty of qualified chiropracters and physical therapists to use during pregnancy." She wasn't mean about it, but I didn't feel extremely reassured. And that sucks because I love, love my doctor.
Thoughts? Jennrs, have you dealt with this before in your business?
Re: To the ladies who are/have been pregnant
When I was pregnant with Taryn, I felt fantastic the entire pregnancy. Very minor hip pain once she dropped at 30+ weeks.
With this pregnancy, I've had lower back and hip pain the entire pregnancy and it's only getting worse. I cringe when I have to change positions, especially when flipping from one side to the other in bed. I haven't found much relief...warm baths and prenatal massages are great, but only provide temporary relief.
I guess my response wasn't much help...just shows you that each person AND each pregnancy can be totally different! Maybe your body will surprise you and you won't have to deal with hip issues.
ETA: Oh...sitting and rotating on an exercise ball does help too, but nothing makes the pain go away completely.
Myhips were my biggest complaint. I was sore the entire time. From about 20 weeks on, I couldn't sleep for more than an hour on one side without waking up with numb hips.
What I felt wasn't really PAINFUL, just annoying.
FWIW, I gained 47 pounds while pregnant, and went from a size 2 to a 12 in the hips right after delivery. My hips and inner thighs are the only places I got stretch marks.
They are back down to a seize 2/4 now.

Bahahaha....I'm already a 12. Good lord I hope I don't stretch out even wider! I won't fit through hallways!
Really? No one cares what size you were before or after you were pregnant. I find it rather rude that you always throw out there how much you weigh and what size you are.
Dude.
I think she was just commenting on how her hips stretched and then went back. And if I have a baby and get back to pre-baby size when the kiddo is less than a year old, I'd be pretty proud of it too.
I guess it is something to be proud of but this has been going on for years- back to knot days when she would always throw out how much she weighed and how she was a 0/2, whatever size when it is totally not necessary.
And I can guarantee that I am not the only person that is tired of seeing this. I still think it is rude- especially when so many other people have weight problems.
Well I hate that it annoys people. Yes, some of us have weight problems but we come on here and talk about it. I don't think she should be excluded from discussing her body weight just because she's naturally thin. Plus she did answer my question.
Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into an argument.
During pregnancy, my only complaint was towards the end (after week 30 probably)- sleeping was horribly uncomfortable due to the hip pain. I tried every kind of pillow out there! Other than that, I was okay during the day.
Afterward, I had to see the chiropractor for a few months of adjustments. He said it's just "one of those things" that some people have problems with and some people don't.

So, to you and MrsG, when you say hip pain what do you mean? Strain? Stretching? General soreness?
I have no complaints about hip pain during my pregnancy. I did have a little pain at night from having to sleep on my side. It was more annoying than anything and as soon as I got up in the morning I was fine.
My hips did stretch a decent amount. I guess maybe that's a good thing for the next time around for me, but I am still 1 to 2 sizes bigger than I was pre-pregnancy.
I would describe it as general soreness/stiffness. Today, we walked around a bit at a baseball game, and I vacuumed my living room (small) and straightened up my bathroom...and now it feels as if my hips/groin area are so stiff and it hurts to walk.
Like I mentioned, a lot of my issues are when I'm sleeping and need to change positions. I feel like my hips/groin are locked and it becomes a bit painful to switch from one side to the other.
Interesting.
Thanks everyone...I guess I'll have to just jump in and see!
I would agree with this. Mine was severe enough (afterward) that I really could not sleep/walk/do anything without being in pain. But, the chiropractic adjustments helped a lot. Everyone is different, hopefully you won't have any issues!!

I have hip issues too. I broke my right femoral neck (well, fractured, whatever) a few years ago. Because I'm a stubborn doofus, I didn't go to the doc right away and it healed incorrectly. I have some major pains sometimes, and the best thing for me was PT.
Anyways, it didn't bother me too much during pregnancy. Sleeping was the worst, because I could only sleep on my side in bed. Waking up was painful, just because of the weight and the position. Toward the end, sleeping in a recliner was the best thing. Other than that, I had no problems and was able to deliver vaginally without hips being the painful part. I asked my doc at an early appointment and he blew it off, saying it shouldn't be a problem (and it wasn't). HTH!

I AM A SIZE 2! OMG.
Totally uncalled for. I answered a question. It's not like I'm starting posts about how I'm a size 2.
Actually, being so small and having a stick figure my whole life has subjected to me tremendous ridicule... so I don't love my size 2 body. I liked having more shape while I was pregnant, but gaining half of my body weight in 9 months did a number on my hips.
It's not about what size you are, it's about your health and self esteem.
Chill out, yo.
