Chili recipes

I need some recipes for Chili! I've never made it before, but I've been craving a Frito Chili Pie lately. Anyone have a good recipe? I've googled, but there are so many variations it's overwhelming.

Re: Chili recipes

  • Honestly I just grab the McCormick chili seasoning mix and follow what it says on the back. I think it is a pound of cooked ground beef, a can of beans, and 2 cans of diced tomatoes. I make it pretty often and it hasnt failed yet. D is a big fan of it too.

I agree. I also use Williams chili seasoning from time to time. I think my chili thick not runny so I never add tomatoe juice or anything like that.

  • Mmmm that does sound good.  I also use the McCormick mixes (with diced tomatoes rather of tomato sauce, but either will work.)

  • I don't follow a recipe, but I do the same general things each time. I use a can of tomato sauce and 2-3 cans of water, but I also use the dry beans (kidney, pinto, red, etc.) and cook them all day in the crock pot, so they absorb lots of liquid. I add a pound of cooked hamburger to the crock pot when I get home and let it cook another hour or two.

For seasoning, I put in garlic salt, a little oregano, paprika, cumin, and crushed red pepper or some Mexican chili power we have, and maybe some chopped onion if I remember. I usually forget to taste it as it's cooking, so it's always a surprise how mild or spicy it will be!

My family always mixed cooked pasta in the chili, then added cheese and some tortilla chips. I've come to learn that few people eat pasta in their chili. It must be a regional thing.

  • I used to have an awesome recipe on my phone--it made such good chili.  I got it from allrecipes.com.  Let me see if I can google and find it....just a moment.
