br: acid reflux

I am going to make an appt for monday for cate but she is appearing to have really bad acid reflux. Severe arching during and after feedings, horrible time burping, just plain discomfort. Is there anything i can do for her until the appt? And why does this stuff come up on a friday night...grrr!

Re: br: acid reflux

  • Can you get in tomorrow? The Beaverdale office of Des Moines Pediatrics has Saturday hours.

Just try to keep her as upright as possible, especially after feedings.  Maybe try some gas drops, too?

  • Dr. Secory told me to limit/eliminate dairy, caffeine, and chocolate.  I thought I'd go insane without all of those items, so I cut out dairy and caffeine, and limited chocolate.  We saw an immediate change in days.  We also kept C upright after feedings, and used a nap nanny during the night.

  • Feed her in an upright position. Burp after every ounce. Keep her upright for at least 30 minutes after feedings. Keep her at an incline when she's in bed/sleeping. Reflux is the worst! Hang in there mama!

  • Ditto to PPs...if you are BFing, try cutting out dairy/caffeine from your diet.

Keep your LO upright for at least 30 minutes after every feeding.

Give smaller, more frequent feedings. Burp more frequently, approximately every 1-2 oz.

Be careful not to fasten diapers too tightly. Pressure on a LOs stomach can exacerbate reflux. This includes tight waistbands on pants.

ETA: If she is having trouble at night, go out any buy a Rock and Play Sleeper. It's $40, but worth it's weight in gold for a reflux baby.

  • Thanks for all of the advice! Luckily they were able to get us in yesterday. She started zantac and he stated that she does have have pretty bad acid reflux. I already was following the diet for the most part so just a few changes. Thanks again! I cant wait to have my not screaming in pain baby back.
