This baby may be nameless!

With only 10 days to go until my due date we still are not 100% set on a name.  I just can't commit.  Such a huge responsibility to give a tiny human a name!  Maybe I really am one of those people who needs to see the little one before I can decide on her name.

Anyone feel like throwing names out there for me?  For some reason I tend to gravitate towards names that are high in popularity, yet would really rather not give my child a super common name.  I like classic names but ones that are not too "old fashioned" sounding.  HELP!

Names we have thrown around include:  Mackenzie, Sophia, Emma, Aubrey, Maya, Kate (which I can't use but love because we have a close friend whose daughter has the same name),  Olivia, Madison, Brooklyn.

Re: This baby may be nameless!

  • I don't have any name suggestions, but have you played on nymbler.com? It's a website that let's you put in the names you like and then suggests others that are in the same family/genre. Might be worth a look to get some inspiration. I will say sometimes it appears you just have to see the baby before naming it, my mom had my name picked out before I was born, and then after seeing me decided it didn't fit and I was in turn named something completely different. HTH and good luck!

  • So Emma , Mackenzi and Madison has been hugely popular these past few years... I've heard a lot of Brooklyns coming out just recently. I agree with you... such great names but when they're in school they'll have 2-3 other girls in their class with the same names... like Jennifer, Stephanie, etc of my generation (not that there's anything wrong with those names... they're beautiful, but my bff who is Jennifer did get tired of always having to be Jenny W to differentiate).

Maybe when you see her little face, it'll come to you. I personally love the name Jocelyn... somewhat popular and common but maybe not tooo much? Not sure... I'd have to research it and of course... I love the name Crystal, lol. I also love Dawn and Lily... but you guys have to find something you both love but again... it may not be until she's born. Don't let it stress you out too much. If she doesn't have a name the minute she's born, she'll still be a beautiful, wonderful, happy little girl. Big Smile

  • Out of the names you put up there, I love Aubrey and Olivia and Kate.  Both H's and my names with our last name sound very strong, so that's what we're trying to go for with our kids.  Alexandra is the girl's name we plan on using.  I also really like Michaela, but that's because I spent a good amount of time being obsessed with Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.  :)

  • I love Aubrey from that list.

I agree..once you see her, I think it will come to you.  I was two days old until I had a name..she'll be okay if you dont have it picked immediately!

  • Julia didn't have a name until she was about 12 hours old.  We felt that we needed to see her before we could give her a name.  Don't worry too much.  A right name will come to you once you see her!

  • I have a girl in my class this year whose name is Amaya (Maya for short).

How about Elizabeth, Samantha, Sydney, Ashlyn, Caitlyn (although maybe it's too close to Kate?), Savannah, Hannah, Haley, Kaeli, Brianna, Eva?

I think you have some great names on your list and hopefully you will "just know" once you see your daughter or get to know her for a day or so.  Although, don't wait too, too long to pick out a name.  My rabbit's name is Bunny b/c I called him that until I could pick out a name.  Well, I never could decide on a name and at some point "Bunny" just stuck.  Smile

That's Jon's little sister's name. For that exact reason!

Our girls name right now is Kendall. Our boys name is Cooper (after Cooper Manning. I KNOW. I KNOW.). I like the name Jackson for a boy. Clearly the boy's name is still up in the air!

  • All your names are great! I l thought you guys recently agreed to MacKenzie? Or was that just the top contender? Don't worry too much about it. You will have some time after she is born to pick out a name! :)

Mackenzie is the top contender, mostly because DH loves it so much.

  • Up here Sophia, Olivia, Mia/Maya, Aubrey and Emma are all VERY popular right now. I'm not sure about your area.

I haven't seen a Brooklyn or Mackenzie in quite some time. Actually the only Mackenzie I know is a boy, but IMO it suits a girl much better.

Lance was the same way with boys names, he refused to settle on a name until after Wyatt was born because he had to see the baby first... and I got cold feet a couple weeks before my due date because both of my sisters' sons have 'W' names... in the end it suited him perfectly and we couldn't have named him better IMO.

When baby gets here and you see her it will make the decision much easier :) How have you been feeling btw?

  • My friend had a dream the other night that I had 3 kids and one of them was named Josephine but we called her Josie for short.  I thought that was really cute!!  It's not on our baby names list, but Josephine is an older name and I love the nickname for it (either Josie or JoJo)

  • I love nameberry.com
Out of the list you provided I like Emma and Olivia the best.

    Here's a few:

    -Charlotte
-Amelia (may be too old fashioned)
    -Emily
    -Caroline
    -Tessa
    -Nina
    -Joanna

I agree that a name will come to you. Like Julia, Anders was unnamed for a while (2 days!) and we were torn between Anders and Graham. Once we saw him S and I both knew he was an Anders, even though Graham was our top contender. I would suggest going in with a few names you like and meeting your LO.

We still have yet to actually make any name movement for 2.0... at this point I'm thinking 2.0 might be his/her name...

I had forgotten that you put the M on that blanket.  Had you decided on it at that time and are now getting cold feet about it or was it never a 100% thing?  And if the latter is the case, why'd you embroider it on there?

Really, I think you'll know when you see her.  And if Mackenzie is your gut choice, I'm sure it will be fitting and you'll love it!

  • The more I'm reading this post...the more I am liking Brooklyn, too!

     Other names I like are:

Ava (the one we plan on using)

    Cora

    Alyssa

    Julia

  • Alexius?  Samantha?  Annalis?  Addison?  Abigail?  These are some of the best names from our Preschool groups.  I really love Addison.  It has the same strong feel as Makenzie.

  • I didn't read all of the comments, but what about Charlotte?  I really like Elanor too, but that might be a little old fashioned for you.  We really like Lillian, but it is too popular down here now.

Try not to stress over the name.  It will come to you.  Parker wasn't Parker until a couple days after he was born.  Everyone called him Baby Boy Lastname.  That is what his wristband says too!  It was funny.  They gave us a hard time, but we didn't want to rush such an important decision.

  • You are getting so close!!!   Its so exciting!!

I totally understand your frustration.  It is so hard to pick out a name, particularly girls.

DH and I have talked about names since very early on in our relationship.  Many years later our top boys names haven't changed but the girls have changed and are changing constantly.

Some names we love right now are:  Cecily, Madelin (My top, but he hates Maddie), Victoria (I can't stand Vicki though), Lily (His top, but I can't commit to it), Alexandria, Scarlett, Clare (Middle name for all of these lol)

My Mom wanted to name my older sister Angelique after a character on a 60's soap opera, but my Dad and Granny talked her out of it.  They wound up compromising and naming my sister Candace.  I can't imagine her being Angelique.

Mackenzie is a good name, but you have to like the name too.

Don't worry, she will be named, just maybe not until after she is born!

  • I actually like the idea of not being set on a name until she's born. It's kinda sweet to pick a name after you see her little face!

  • Brooklyn was Ryan's favorite. I refused because my sister's name is Brooke.

The only name we could agree on was Cicily (pronounced Sicily), one of my cheerleaders had that name.

The names I liked were Raegan (that was a boost to my middle name since it is Rae. But Ryan refused to name his kid after a dead president.

    I love the name Cambry(i)

Went through my phone list...here's some more girls' names.

Taylor, Shelby, Sydney, Jamie, Annie, Rachelle, Cyndel, Mattie, Alexa, Selena,Jordan, Aryana, Hallie, Macee, McKenna (Kenna), Autumn, Kylee, Samantha, Karissa, K'Lynn, Kierstan.

M was just the top contender, and it is just top stitched on so it can come off easy enough if need be :)

  • I'm biased, but I think Kate is a lovely name! I think it's best to pick a name you like and not worry about what other people do/have done. My Mom's best friend named her daughter Kate about 8 years after I was born. It wasn't competitive, it was just a name they both liked.

My best friend's name is Katee, and we don't think anything of our names being similar, although when people try to shorten my name to Kate or Katie I find it weird. I've never been a  nic name person
