Would you take him to the vet?

Cori has been to the vet 3 times already since I adopted him. It's totally fine and I get that pets have to go to the vet, but this is getting crazy. Now, his left eye has been producing boogs pretty consistently for the last couple of days. He got a benedryl (how in the world do you spell that?) once a day over the weekend and has been really mopey. The benedryl helped with his itchies, but his eye is still pretty goupy. WWYD? Im thinking wait it out a couple more days, stop the benedryl and see if he perks up, but I'm not sure.

Re: Would you take him to the vet?

  • Yes. It sounds like he needs some sort of eye drops to clear up an infection.

  • Hmm, how bad is the goop? Ours get eye stuff pretty regularly (especially in the mornings), but we just wipe it and they're fine. I've never thought to be concerned about it. N's gets worse (bigger goops) every now and then, but then it goes back to normal. But only you know what's normal and what's not. I always take ours to the vet if something seems off. Better to be safe.
  • It's a normal amount of goop, just consistent, like I'm wiping it out three times a day or so. Regular size eye boogs though, does that make sense? His eye isn't showing any other signs of infection either.

  • If it's normal for you to wipe goop out of his eyes 3 times a day, then wait it out.

That is not normal for our dogs, so I'd take them.

  • I don't feel like I know him well enough health wise to know if this is a normal amount of goop or not. I'm going to call and see what they say.

  • Eye goop requiring a wipe three times a day would mean an infection for my dogs.
  • It could be allergies but I would call the vet to see what they say. I took A to the vet Thursday b/c he seemed a little off and the vet said he had a virus. My poor little pup had a fever of 103 and he's on antibiotics for the next week. So, IMO it's better to he safe than sorry.
