Co sleeping ?

First off let me preface this by saying I am not comfortable with having my baby sleep in my bed. But my MIL (may have mentioned this before) has told me she'd like to purchase a bassinet as part of a family tradition on her side. I never really liked them and we have a lot of stuff we've received as hand me downs from my sister including a pNp and bouncy seat, a stroller with a detachable bassinet that I was planning on using during the night. But MIL called recently just to double check on the bassinet inquery and I am thinking I still don't Want a bassinet but what about the arms reach cosleeper thing? Should I register for it? Or am I going over board and just adding to the clutter in out basement? Or is the arms reach thing worth it? As a sidenote I plan on EB (but I am aware not everything goes according to plan) I'd also like to transition ther to her crib asap. Sorry for typos /lack of punctuation nesting from my phone Any other suggestions are 100% welcome

Re: Co sleeping ?

  • I am going to use a Co-Sleeper for at least 4 months. I'm not sure if I will hook it to my bed or not.  I used a PNP with DS and he warped the board that held the bassinet attachment.  When I contacted graco I was told that they are not manufactured for long term sleep so that is why I am not using a PNP this time.  the co-sleeper is manufactured for your child to sleep in.

If it was me I would ask her for that instead of a fancy bassinet and see if she would be OK with that.

  • If you would prefer the co-sleeper then ask for it. A slept in the bassinet portion of her PNP for the first 3 months next to our bed. It worked for us. But I know a lot of people who have used the side of bed co-sleeper and loved it so I'm sure it's worth it. It's just a personal preference.

  • August- They sell mattress pads for PnP that are better then just the board. plus I use a fluffy cover under the sheet for the PnP we use at my moms so his little bad has support.

Kate- I have a bassinet.  I LOVE my bassinet because it has wheels as I have her near wall and when she needs to be fed I pull her closer to bed in the middle of the night.  I got a really nice one 50% when pregnant with Jack.

I like the bassinet for sleeping rather than my PnP because everything comes off bassinet for cleaning.  The sheets and entire piece that had skirt/overhang on top.  I recommend one like this for cleaning.

If you are getting a ton of hand me downs already, get something nice like this.

Ours had the mattress stuff  but the board that slides into the bassinet attachment that goes under the mattress stuff is what warped. They may have changed the design I didn't look at them this time. I was more pissed at Graco when I called them and they informed me they are only for napping cause they sure don't market it that way.

  • we used the fisher price rock and play sleeper for samantha for the first 3-4 months. it was small enough to not take up much room next to my side of the bed, and moved easily (especially across carpet) when i wanted to push it, it folds up for storage or to take along with you or to move rooms....then we moved her to her crib in her room.
  • We used a moses basket on a stand next to my side of the bed for almost 3 months. It's smaller than a bassinet which worked better for our space. I've heard a lot of good things about the Arm's Reach co-sleeper, though.

  • we used the arms reach for 4 months i think.  it's the only thing i have experience with, but it worked perfectly for ebf.  like a bassinet, everything is completely removable and washable.  it also has storage on the side for diapers, lansinoh, etc (which you also need in the middle of the night).  one thing i really liked about it was the height.  i dont think i would have wanted the baby down near the floor in a lower style seat while recovering from a c-section.  it was hard enough to sit up in the middle of the night the first few times, let alone reach down and scoop the baby up.  the cosleeper adjusts to the height of your bed and she is literally right there.  although, i would think the height could be accomplished with a pnp too.  hope that helps.
