I?m throwing my first kid party (as opposed to just inviting the relatives over like we?ve always done) in a few weeks. It?s going to be at an establishment that will serve cake and we have a 2 hour play time limit to be there (Backyard Playworld).
I would love to say ?no gifts? but that would probably be cruel to my newly minted 5 yr old. On that, what does everyone think about opening gifts at the party vs letting the kids play the entire time and taking the gifts home unopened? Is it necessary to open gifts in front of their small guests? Is it just the adults that might be appalled at this?
Am I missing any details that would make a difference in your answer? Except that, No, I don?t know why I?m obsessing over this little detail. Just indulge me with your opinion

Re: Kid?s party wwyd
We've been to different parties where they've done it both ways. My kids were really bothered by the ones who didn't open gifts at the party. I think kids get a kick out of watching others open gifts and to see what they got.
I know that opening gifts at the party cuts the play time short, but I would just plan for 20 minutes and help your son hurry through the opening of the gifts (don't let him play with each one).
Ok, so it's just me that doesn't want to sit through it, even though it was inevitable.
But I'm glad I asked! I wouldn't want to disappoint a small group of 3-6 yr olds.
Thanks

I used to host kids birthday parties..... Kids expect to watch the gift opening.
Designate an adult or yourself to speed up the process.
Fine. The things we are forced to endure for our kids.
I'm kidding! I'm still learning.
