Self-Serve Checkouts Yay or Nay

Re: Self-Serve Checkouts Yay or Nay

  • They're nice if I'm just picking up milk & the other lines are busy.  I somewhat despise them, I'm not there to work.  But I usually use them because I can't stand how they bag stuff, usually 3 items & that's it.  I like to fill my bag, esp. if I forget my recycle bags, so I don't end up w/20 bags for 10 items!

I like the long ones at Meijer, just wish people knew how to use the divider when they are bagging so the next person can start.

  • I love the self-serve for myself, but it irritates the heck out of me when Im waiting behind someone special who cant figure out how to get their items to scan.  I understand there is always the one item that wont scan because the barcode is stupid, but when you need help scanning over half of your items, please go to a regular check out line.

Sassy, where you at Busch's w/me yesterday at noon?  I swear the employee was ringing up the stuff, not just 1 item.  If you can't do it, then don't go in that line, she needs to be available for the other people doing self-service.

  • When I grocery shop with DH, we use the self-serve line.  We make a good team and get out of there rather quickly.  If it's just me with a lot of items or when I have quite a few coupons, I use the regular lanes.
  • I pretty much always go self-checkout unless I have a whole cartload full of food. But I can't stand when people don't know how to use them, or they have a ton of items and it takes them forever! Go to a normal lane if you don't know how to use it.

  • I usually do one big shopping trip a week - I always go to a regular line for this because I have a ton of stuff.  Probably two or three times a month I'll go for just a few items and almost always use the self check-out.

I actually really hate the long self check-outs at meijer.  If I'm by myself it takes forever to ring everything up and then bag it all.

  • I usually use them.  They are great for what they are intended for, a few items.  When people try to go through them with a full cart and hold everything up, it pisses me off.

  • I used to absolutely hate those things but now I've come to enjoy them.  I usually shop at Meijer, and it seems like they never have anybody working in the regular lanes.  So either you spend 10 minutes waiting in line to get a "real" person, or you do it yourself.  I like the unlimited item U-scans better than the ones with all the weight sensors and things because those ones always give me grief and I get frustrated.

  • If I have a ton of stuff (unless we're at Meijer where they have the unlimited self checkouts) I will go to regular checkout. Otherwise if I have just a few items, I just use the self checkouts. Although I'm undecided on which I prefer. Sometimes it's nice to have someone ring and bag everything for you instead of doing it yourself.

Ditto this! So annoying when they don't flip the divider. If they previous person doesn't, I will go down there myself and flip it.

Another one of my peeves is when someone will stop and bag before they have completely checked themselves out which further delays things.
