Vent/Poll: How long to get ready

When I add up the time it should take me to do everything I need to do in the morning, it *should* take me 1.5 hours. So since LO got up early this morning at 5:30, I should have been dropping him off at daycare (2 mins away) at 7am, but in reality it was 8am. I have no idea where that extra hour came from. It isn't LO's fault, he was an angel this morning. I am so frustrated that I waste so much time in the mornings and I don't even know how it happens!!

So...How long does your morning routine take? Do you have kids and/or pets to deal with? Do you have any activities squeezed in there (ie: working out)?

Re: Vent/Poll: How long to get ready

  • I can typically get up and be ready with DD dressed/ready in less than an hr.  Typically I can be at daycare within an hr and 10 minutes of me crawling out of bed (daycare is 3-5miles away).

DH usually feeds the animals and lets the dog out, but it just depends on the day/schedule who does what.  I ALWAYS get the kid ready unless it's winter time.

Unless I'm going to work late, I also don't feed DD.  Daycare does because DD won't eat right when she wakes up.

  • From the time I get up and until I leave the house I allow myself about an hour and half. That includes taking a quick shower, putting clothes on, drying my hair, make up, getting A up (normally she is already up). DH will take her downstairs and feed her breakfast. We pack our lunches, eat my breakfast, change A into her clothes and I try to be out the door by 6:45 a.m. Dropping her off at 7 a.m. DH takes the dogs outside before he leaves for work at 6:15 a.m.. I've noticed that I have to get up earlier to accomplish everything I need too. I use to get up at 6, now it's 5 a.m. I can't imagine what will happen when two kiddos are added to the mix.

  • When J was BFing/I was pumping about 2 hours (mabye 1.5 if I was really really quck and things fell into place).  Wheh he was little and needed bottles made for DC we did every single thing we could possibly do the night before.

Now it's about an hour and 15 minutes.  We both get up, I jump into the shower while DH walks the dogs.  I get out of the shower and start getting ready (make-up, drying hair, etc) DH comes up with J's cup of milk and a pre-breakfast snack (he eats the full breakfast at DC), at some point during us both getting ready I go in and get J up.  I lay his stuff out the night before so it takes about 2 mintues to change his diaper and clothes.  I bring him into our room and he has his snack, reads books, plays with some toys we keep in there.  We continue to get ready and play a little with him, run downstairs spend about 5 minutes in the kitchen making coffee and getting stuff together and are out the door.

It really does get quicker when you don't have to mess with bottles and all the baby stuff (and thankfully our DC provides a really good breakfast so I'm sure that cuts time off our morning routine)

  • No kids to add to the mix, so my routine is fairly normal.

Wake up at 5, feed and take Diesel for a walk.  Shower, makeup, hair, get dressed by 5:50; breakfast, put lunch in bag (pre-made the night before) and out the door by 6:10.

  • I set my alarm for 6. however I usually lay in bed til 6:30. this usually backfires on me, since DS is usually up at 6:30. but I don't seem to learn my lesson.  this results in me not showering a lot of days. so I have just started showering at night.

I get him dressed and either take him in my room with me so I can finish getting dressed, or if I have already managed to get clothes on myself, we both go downstairs and I get him a cup of juice or milk and me a cup of coffee. then we sit for about 10 minutes and I try to catch the weather/traffic, until he starts begging me to watch The Wiggles. So I put it on the Wiggles (or Chuggington, or Mickey Mouse Playhouse) while I run back upstairs to brush my teeth. Its now about 7:30, which is my goal time to leave the house; however most days we don't leave til closer to 8.

I make one trip and load up the car while he is sitting watching his show then come back to get him. At this point there is a good chance that he has either 1) pooped, or 2) stripped down completely naked so that takes even more time before we can get out the door and into the car. I am usually late every single day. However, everyone else here is too, even the people who don't have kids, so I don't break my neck trying to get here on time.

I have nightmares about getting 2 kids off to daycare in the morning.

This sounds a lot like my schedule. Plan to be up at 6, but it's usually 6:30. Plan to be out the door at 7:45, but it's usually 8:15. I just thought since DS got up 45 mins early today, our whole schedule would be early, but nope!

  • I usually set my alarm for two hours before I need to be at work. I take about 30 mins to "wake up" by checking email, FB, etc. I then eat breakfast, pack my lunch, take care of the cat, then get ready for work (all of which takes about an hour). This routine leaves me 30 minutes to get to work.

Working kids into the mix one day will be interesting.

  • I've been thinking about this too lately and worrying about having to get up early when I start a job.  I've been taking it easy for awhile and if I have an hour commute, plus probably 1.5 hours at home in the morning to get me ready, feed/walk Keefe, and spend time working with him, I'm going to have to get up way earlier than I would like.

I know-on the days he actually gets up and ready earlier you would think I would be out the door sooner. Nope. These are probably also the mornings that the cats decide to puke or something so I have to stop and clean that up.

  • About an hour and a half. I wake up at 5:30 and DD is usually still asleep. I can shower, get myself together, get bottles made, my lunch made and everything ready by 6:30. Then I wake up DD get her dressed and give her a morning bottle and we are out the door by 7. I really don't have a choice to lay in bed or take my time since I car pool with someone 4 out of the 5 days during the week.

  • My mornings are not so bad, at least when DH is not out for training.

    6:00AM (6:15)get up/ shower/dress

6:30 go down to eat breakfast, spend time cleaning up/organizing kitchen, feed dogs, put lunch and bottles into my bag.

6:30-6:40 sit down to eat breakfast/entertain DD while eating. DH has finished his breakfast by this point, so it is my turn to watch DD while he finishes getting ready.

6:50 - finish breakfast and then nurse DD, unless she has started to fuss then I feed her earlier. Realize that I should have already left by now in order to get to work on time.DH is taking stuff out to his car since he does drop off.

7:00 - 7:50 leave. The extra 10 or 15 minutes (I should be leaving at 6:50) makes a HUGE difference in my commute.

On days that I run late, I only wash my hair. Sometimes I take DD downstairs or change her diaper and take her down. It depends on what DH is doing. DH  also lets the dogs out in the morning.

While I am technically "late" for work, I still get here before most other people (and my boss). I do pump several times per day, but I don't take lunch/run errands or generally even leave the building.

  • its very bad and I am very pokey, add in a little girl who is also pokey and opinionated and its NOT GOOD.

I wake up around 6-6:30 and I really have to eat breakfast and have coffee or my entire day is off.  Unfortunately this takes about 20-30 minutes - I really need to let go of the breakfast thing, but I can't, its "my" time.  Then I go upstairs putz around a little more, shower if I have time, get dressed.  DD is normally up around 6:45-7.  And, then we fight/get her dressed and leave.  In theory, this should take 20 minutes, but there is always a standoff about something - today it was whether she was going to use the potty or not, then the shorts for the day, etc., etc.  We left at 7:55.  I realy need to leave my house by 7:15 to have any chance of gettng to work on time.

  • oh, I also wanted to add I have no help from DH in the mornings which is probably a big reason why I can't get my act together. He leaves at 5:30 most mornings. But on the days when he goes in late, it goes a lot smoother because I can just say "Here-you get him dressed while I load up the car" or whatever.

  • I am up at ten of 5 every morning--whether or not DS is awake.  Sometimes he wakes up and I take care of him, other times I have to wake him up at 5:30.  On good days where he sleeps in a little, I have time to get up, get a shower/dressed, prepare my lunch and get his bottle ready.  Then when I wake him up I get him dressed and feed him.  We are usually out of the house by five of 6 to get him to daycare.

DH sleeps in but takes care of the dog everyday.  I was contemplating getting up an extra 10 minutes to run on the treadmill.  Especially since DS has been sleeping in lately.

  • It takes me an hour from the time I get up until i'm at desk, with a 20 minute commute, so about 40 minutes of actually getting ready - shower, blow dry hair, makeup, throw  a lunch together (same thing every day, so exciting!), and I'm out the door. I pick out my clothes the night before so there's no scrambling.

Admittedly that 40 minutes includes cuddle time with the dogs. Some mornings (like this morning) I get much more distracted by their cuteness and have to keep going in the bedroom to give them kisses and tell them I love them Embarrassed

H feeds the dogs in the morning and does all that jazz, so I just take care of myself and I'm out the door (I feed them and take them out in the evening.)

  • For work it takes me about 45 minutes after I'm done my workout. I usually workout from 5am-6am then get out the door by 6:45 if I'm not working from home. Showering is about 5 min tops which includes shaving underarms and legs every morning, I dry my hair just enough so that it's not dripping, wear minimal make up, and throw on jeans and a scrub shirt. The dogs eat through out the day so I put food down for everyone, make coffee, grab my lunch that I pack on Sunday's and head out the door. Right now it takes me longer because Bella just had her surgery so I have to carry her outside to use the bathroom then carry her back in and we have a puppy so I have to get her kong and enrichment feeders ready before I leave.

For going out on weekends it takes me about an hour because I spend about 5 min on make up, not 1 min, and 15 min drying my hair, not 5 min.

  • oh and H and I have already discussed what we'll do when there are kids in the mix, and basically it would boil down to him not being able to sleep in ha. Right now I get up anywhere from 5 to 530, and he sleeps until after I leave - how long depends on the dogs - so usually later than 6 most days, some days he sleeps until 7, lucky duck!  So when there are kids involved it will probably result in my getting to work later and his having to wake up earlier.

We do all this stuff the night before and freeze it - it makes it so much easier to have it all ready to go!  But frozen may be too hard for puppy (it also makes it last a bit longer, which with Jackson, is worth every penny.)

I should clarify - Rich makes it the night before alogn with the coffee, while I walk the dogs.  I freely admit he gets the short end of the stick there.

I do that for the other 4, every Sunday and Wednesday I do kongs and busy cubes but the puppy is getting all of her breakfast from the kong and she needs Panacur mixed in to her food. I can't freeze Panacur or it looses strength, sigh. It's really a simple thing to do but I am seriously bitter that it's something added to my morning routine, I like everything possible done the night before or on Sunday.

  • Ohhhhhh I see, that does stink.  At least you can get the other four out of the way!

This is also one of the reasons I escape the house first - then Rich is in charge of the dogs - they are much more manageable at night Embarrassed
