So, some bad news. Our little pup was sick Saturday morning so we didn't end up making the Phantom Gourmet Festival. We had to give our tickets to some friends so somebody could use them. Thankfully Simon was starting to feel better late in the afternoon, and kept his food down. He ate another dogs food at daycare, and I really think that was what did it... I am upset we missed it, but there is always next year. Also, we ended up having a really nice date night just FI and I.
Yesterday was my bridal shower, and it was great! Delicious food, cake, cookies and my living room is now scattered with a sky high pile of empty boxes. Our recycling barrel only held so much, so now we had to find a friend with a dumpster. It was a really good day, and it was nice seeing family and friends.
How was everyone else's weekend??
Re: Weekend Update
Aww, sorry your puppy was so sick and I hope he continues to feel better.
In our town all paper recycling is put in paper bags or tied with thread and doesn't have to be put in the recycling bin itself. We usually just put it next to the bin--does yours not work this way?
Our weekend was good. Saturday was super lazy and most of the day I just read The Help. I did also rally to do some grocery shopping and we hung out with another couple that night. Yesterday we hung out with my family for a few hours then had dinner at Oishii, which was good but overpriced for what it was IMO.
Aw, I'm sorry your little pup was sick! Hopefully your friends had fun at the festival in your place.
My weekend was too busy and too short. DH wasn't home from his trip until after 5pm on Saturday, and we had an open house on Sunday. So we didn't get a second to relax and just hang out until last night when DH and I watched this past week's Modern Family.
Thank you, I hope so too. I mentioned to his daycare about making sure he doesn't eat another dog's food, but Simon is like a vacuum and I doubt she'd be able to stop it from happening... Trash and Recycling in my town is weird. The switched over to "totes" a couple years ago and you're issued one of each and can only fill it enough so it can close. You can purchase extra "special" trash bags for garbage only not recyclables. It's a really crummy system. Hence we have a huge pile in our living room
I was up in MA this weekend. It is so pretty up there with all of the trees, especially because they are starting to changed.
Friday I had two interviews which went well, but neither job is ideal, so back to the drawing board. We went to dinner in Worcester to the Sole Proprietor for DH's 30th birthday, which was delicious.
Saturday, we went to Boston which was my first ever trip. Well, first we went to Nyack to do a little shopping. I can do some serious damage there. Then we drove around Boston a little (darn traffic is crazy). We parked in the North End, walked around, had a beer and some soup at Union Oyster, which was Big Doug's idea and I would not eat at again, and walked some more. I got pasteries from Mike's, which were awesome. We tried to go to Harpoon Brewery, but the tours were sold out, so they gave us a free voucher for a future trip and we just got some beers to go.
Sunday, Doug and his girlfriend left early and DH and I just went for a drive. Then the dog and I left and came back to PA. It only took 4hours 45 minutes on the way home, which was good.
The highlight of my weekend was little Doug using the elevator. He has never been on one before. He willingly got on and off, but he looked at us like we were crazy making him go in and out of this room. He also got really excited when anyone else would get on or off. He tried to hug a huge guy who got on with us, then stared at him the whole ride, and barked at him like "hey, don't you see me down here." This is going to be a work in progress.
Aww, I hope Simon is feeling better! Jack is also a vacuum when he gets near food, so I can only imagine.
We were on vacation Wednesday through Sunday, and it was awesome. We had a rental car for the weekend, so we were able to get stuff done. Friday, Jack had his first appointment with the groomer. After initially freaking the eff out (he doesn't care for people who aren't us or other dogs), he calmed down.
Such a handsome poocher, heh. After I picked him up, I ran some errands (Russos!), and laid low. Except that I made beef wellington for dinner, and it was delicious.
Saturday, we went to Framingham/Natick. Kellys for lunch, a stop at the Container Store, and then we went to see The Help. I liked it, and thought it was pretty true to the book. Surprisingly, my husband liked it as well. Sunday, my husband stayed home and watched the Pats lose while I went shopping. I hit up Frugal Fannie's and got a winter coat and 2 sweaters for $137. Then I tried Nordstrom Rack in Burlington and struck out. I hit up the Ann Taylor outlet, though, and got a sweater and some more camisoles (you can never have too many, since everything seems to be made see-through and/or so low cut). And then I collapsed.
Beef wellington always makes me think of Hell's Kitchen. I have no idea how to make it, but go you!
Sorry you didn't find anything at the Rack, but sounds like you did great elsewhere!
LadyE - how was your open house?
Our weekend was pretty uneventful - only major thing was that we bought (well, leased) DH a new truck Saturday morning. Now he can stop complaining!
Friday night I saw home by myself while DH was at his football game and got to watch a bunch of new shows. Saturday we did the truck and then grabbed dinner in Providence with another couple. Yesterday was just errands, laundry and cleaning. And I'm pretty sure I was falling sleep on the couch last night at like 8:30.
Ditto! Really addicting show too... Although haven't been a fan of the last two seasons.
Haha Doug cracks me up! Simon is the same way though, he thinks everyone should want to pet him and play with him.
Glad you liked our foliage. MA has beautiful autumns. And it sounds like you had a pretty good dining experience in Worcester. The Sole Proprietor is a very good restaurant! Keep your chin up about the job interviews, and just finding a job in general. You'll find just what you're looking for eventually.
You're dog is absolutely adorable!! And I am very jealous of your shopping trips this weekend. Sounds like you got very lucky. I have been striking out at finding deals lately.
Thanks. I am trying to just stay positive.
I have to admit, I have never had beef wellington, but it always looks delicious on Hell's Kitchen. Well, when they don't screw it up.
Add to that how to cook a prawn. They are always getting yelled at for that one.
And scallops! Always something wrong with the scallops...
I totally agree with this! I mean, c'mon, people only get yelled at for those two things every freakin' season that the show's been on.
I got bored with it all and stopped watching a while ago. And Gordon Ramsay is such a TV whore; I can't keep track of how many shows he has on now but I think there's at least three.
Yes. It's like the people who go on Survivor and haven't practiced making fire with a flint.
