Not from you guys...
Tman and I are home today and a family (mom, dad, toddler and grandma) it looks like came to the door. I had been outside so they knew I was home so I answered (normally I wouldn't answer especially without my husband home). They looked like they were inviting people to church. Fine. We go to church - a lot, my son goes to a Christian school, we are very "religious" "spiritual" whatever.
So, I answer the door and the mom, I think, says that they are inviting people to church. I told them I thought that was great and good for them and that we are Christians and are faithful to our church, XXX. They say oh great, but do you believe in the Spirit. I told them yes, but not in the same way that you do, I don't think. Anyway, so we start talking about it and going through scriptures and like I said, we are big time "church people" so I know my Bible - well. WE are going back and forth and it's actually starting to escalate.
I finally told them that I would appreciate if they were respectful to my beliefs since they had come to my door and I could very easily just close it on them. And I told them that although I think it's great that they are out sharing God with people, we are already Christians and it doesn't make much sense to try to convince me of a specific part of their doctrine when there are people out there that don't believe in God at all.
None of that matters for the sake of this post, but, at the end, the mom asked if she could hug me. I told her no and she gave me this look like she was so confused by my answer. I told that I don't show physical affection to strangers. She then asked if she could pray with me, and I obliged. She prayed that God would open my eyes to the Spirit.
CRAZY. Or am I crazy for thinking this is crazy? Would you have hugged the gal?

Re: "Can I have a hug"?
it's one thing if people talk to you outside.. or even know that you're home.. i wouldn't have answered the door and i definitely wouldn't have let them any closer to me to hug me. especially when it sounds like they were being disrespectful.
and a hug from a nestie would be a nice thing,
i think you were nice to pray with her.. i wouldn't have done that either.

I agree with all the PPs. You were kind enough to talk to the solicitors (I'm not sure if they qualify as missionaries due to the random/aggressive/rude tactics they used), but there is NOTHING wrong with not wanting to hug them.
I hope that branch of Christianity doesn't both you any further. I certainly wouldn't have let them on your property as long as you did.
