Those who have been to Newport

The Dude and I are leaving Friday after work. We have a B&B booked for Saturday and Sunday. We want to drive a good majority of the way on Friday and I was thinking we'll just priceline a place that night. Anyone know of a good place to stop for the night? We don't even mind driving the whole way but the hotels in Newport are expensive, even naming your own price.

Re: Those who have been to Newport

  • Oooh, how about Mystic?  That's where I would go, but I don't know if it's any cheaper than Newport in the grand scheme of things.

There's also Stamford.  It's a little city and it's got good bars and restaurants.  I go there often to visit friends, so I could inquire if you needed an activity or dinner rec.

More exciting than Stamford would be Greenwich... I'm pretty sure that's on the way.  I don't know that hotels would be extremely expensive, but everything else would be.  But it's awesome to see how the very upper echelon of society live! I almost died and went to retail heaven when I was there.  Take the top stores at KOP and put them all in one place...

  • Well the goal is to not spend much time there. We'd probably get there around 11pm and just go to bed and then get up and have breakfast and probably hit the road. I will look into Stamford though!

  • Mystic actually seems to be cheaper so I'm going to bid on a room there. Maybe we'll check out the area on Saturday morning before leaving for Newport!

  • DH and I stayed at the Radisson in Mystic many years ago. It was clean and inexpensive.

  • Totally do mystic!  And get some mystic pizza on your way out of town!
  • naragansett i also recommend, we stayed in B&B and it was nice.
  • I did priceline and got the Hilton in Mystic for $95! Good enough for me. I think we'll hit up the seaport before we head to Newport on Saturday. Thanks ladies :)

  • Hi - I grew up in CT so I'm familiar with Mystic. Stay away from the aquarium. It's outrageously expensive and very, very small - not worth it! Newport is awesome - have a great time! Definitely do the Cliff Walk but wear sneakers. Some of it is rockier. Made the mistake of wearing flip flops one time ...
