Introduction and a pattern request

Hello!  I've been lurking for a while and thought I'd finally say hello!  I married my husband in July of 2009 and we bought a new construction home that October.  (We had to wait for it to be built and lived in a 24 ft camper trailer at an RV park while we waited!)  I'm a Kindergarten teacher and am just over half way through my masters program...I'll be finished in May!

When I do get some free time, I love to quilt!  I started with table runners and have done some tree skirts, Kindle covers and baby quilts.  I've done one big quilt and look forward to more!

My question is if anyone has seen a pattern or tutorial on a puffy play mat.  I saw them at my farmer's market this summer and thought, "I could make that."  I think I could make up the pattern, but thought I'd ask here.

Here is a link to what I'm talking about.

Here's my facebook album with some of my quilting creations...hopefully this works!

Re: Introduction and a pattern request

  • Hello and welcome!

I'm also a quilter- the play mat just looks like a panel and 3 different patterns for squares (alternating every other) so:

    A B A B A B A B

    C B C B C B C

    A B   Panel   A B

    B C   Panel   B C

    A B A B A B A B

    B C B C B C B C

There are 2 taggies in the quilt (bold/ underlined) and a self bound edge from the backing fabric.

    Here's a tutorial on self-binding quilts:

For the poofy look, I'd probably just use double batting.  There's a different poofy quilting technique that involves individually stuffing blocks, I can find a tutorial if you want that too.
