Sorry wrong board...How do you handle with making a mistake in work?

You ladies offer great advice and I need some. I had a problem with a student. Something happened at lunch she claimed to her parents she told the teachers, teachers said she didn't. I spoke to the child who told me she told them. I brought her to them to find out if she told them or maybe told another teacher. Her father found out and said it was handled inappropriately and is upset. Said I called child a liar which is not true.

I am so upset and have been thinking about it too much. How do you get over it? Thanks!

Re: Sorry wrong board...How do you handle with making a mistake in work?

  • I don't think that dad would have been happy with anything you did and I think you handled it fine. (I'm a teacher too.) All I can say as far as getting over it is you can't please everyone, all the time. As long as you don't have an angry parent mob beating down your door you're ok :) what do you teach? Are you new to teaching?
  • No I am not new. I am a school counselor. I am in a large building and being pulled in so many directions. I just am stressed.
  • Lol...What board did you mean to post on? Anyways, I didn't mean to be insulting. I've been teaching 5 years and parents are often the worst part of the job, it still makes me nervous when a mom or dad wants to meet with me!

I posted wrong before I even saw your response. You weren't insulting at all. I know how you feel about parents.

I agree with MrsBini.  I am a teacher as well and there are just some parents who will never be satisfied with what you do.  I probably would have done the same thing as you did, you have to get both sides of the story.  Don't beat yourself up over it!
