help with a babymoon

I am trying to plan a babymoon sometime between mid November-beginning of January. I will be like 21-29 weeks then.  Ideally I'd like to go mid November, because I am worried how I'll start to feel in the 3rd trimester.  Our vacations are usually pretty centered around the beach, but it will be too chilly then, so I'm having some trouble planning.  Originally I wanted to do a cruise, but now I am too paranoid to be on a boat or in another county.  We want to stay pretty close to home (within like 4 hours) since we are going during my school year, I want to conserve my sick days for when the little peanut arrives.  So I have some places in mind:

Sanibel/Amelia/Marco Islands.  I am concerned there won't be enough to do here with no beach.  But then again, we probably won't want to do much.  Also, the time we are going is high season. Junie and Shauna recommended some nice places, but they are $250-$420 a night and that is not what I want to spend (under $130 would be nice).

St. Pete. Grand Plaza is reasonably priced.

Venice Beach. waiting on a quote on a hotel that was rec to me.

Orlando. When H suggested this I was not happy, but now that I think about it, there is plently to do there if we feel like it.

Soooooo if anyone has any ideas on these places, especially a hotel rec,  I would love it.  I am open to other ideas also.

  • If you do Orlando, you should check out the Gaylord Palms if you haven't been there.  It's a great hotel and it's all decorated for the holidays.  They usually have some Florida resident specials as in December before Christmas places usually aren't very busy.  It's after Christmas that it picks up.  You could check out the ICE show at the Gaylord.  Pretty neat!

Another favorite of ours is the Ritz Carlton (the one on the beach) in Naples.  Again, I think prior to Christmas you can get some decent rates there.  We love to go down there and just relax.  It is usually too chilly to lounge on the beach, but it's still beautiful.  Then you can walk around shops in Naples.  We've gone down there a couple times to stay.

That's all I have for ideas.  I'm not much help!

  • St. Augustine?  Naples can be fun too :)

  • We went to Sanibel, and stayed at the Marriott right before the bridge to Sanibel.  It was close enough to Sanibel but not Sanibel prices.  We relaxed, had massages, went shopping, ate good food, etc.  We went in November, but it happened to be cool and rainy.  We still had a good time!

  • Amelia Island or St. Augustine are both really nice around November/December :-)

  • i agree with st augustine.. we went there for our 1st anniversary, its a really cool place.. and i have a rec for a b&b that we loved- at journeys end

if u want to go bigger i always thought a cabin in the smokey mtns would be so nice this time of year.. maybe try gatlinburg or something?

  • We went to St. Augustine and had a great time. While you have the beach, there is so much more. I was at 28w when we went so I wasn't miserable yet and was able to walk around comfortably!
