WWYD? Repair or Toss? (Now PIP of real thing)
5-10 years ago my grandma gave me a wool pea coat that may or may not be vintage.
It was on it's last life but I was all, "Ooo I like that" just as she was about to throw it out. It's been in my closet since. I put it on last night and really think I may be able to finally fit in it this winter.
Thing is it needs lots of work. The inner lining has been cut out (no tags to find out who/what made it) and one of the sleeves is held on by a single thread - that aside, it's in really great shape (color, fabric condition).
So WWYD? Go get it fixed (how much would that cost??) and wear something cool that your grandma wore, or pitch it, it's not worth the repair and she was planning to do that it anyway?

I'd probably see how much it costs to get it repaired and go from there.
If the cost to repair is more than a comparable ( quality wise) jacket would cost now than I might not.
I love the fact that its vintage and something handed down to me from my grandmother.
This was my thought too. I would find out how much it would cost. I wouldn't spend 100s of dollars getting it repaired though.
As much as I love my family and I like to have something to remind me of them, I am all about purging as much "stuff" as I can (sometimes to a fault...I donate/throw away a lot). If it is something you'll actually wear and it doesn't cost what a new coat would, I would definitely repair it. If it's going to collect dust because you have other coats you like and wear, I'd definitely get rid of it!
I honestly would wear this coat, and I like the idea of wearing something my grandma wore.
I'll take it to 2 or 3 different tailors and see what they say. I'll put $75 on the line for this coat - reasonable right?
