So I need to get a new ID and I have an appointment for this morning, well R said he doesn't have to go, and I said my sponsor has to be there.  Anyone know the truth?? TIA

Re: New ID

  • Never mind,  I found it on the website and he does have to be there

  • He has to be there so you can replace the ID you already have? Weird. I mean I'm not doubting you but still, it's weird. What would I do if pinky's ID was lost? Lord knows her father isn't coming over here.

Her dad should give you a POA for that. I had one from my husband from basic.

  • There should be a specific POA that can be used to renew/replace an ID card.  They're pretty fussy about having that specific one.  It would likely be faster for your sponsor to go to the ID office with you than it would be for him to go to JAG and get the POA...

Fat fuuking chance. That douchebag would rather see his daughter do without than give me a damned thing.

No, seriously. I've had to call up JAG on him before because of shiit like this and he still waited until his visitation to handle it.

He says he "doesn't trust me." To do what, exactly? It's not like you can get an ID card for someone not listed in DEERS on his page two?

He's such a dumbass and now I'm all pissy this morning. lolol sorry.

  • Yeah I think it's ridiculous that you can't go in and get a new ID card if you're already in DEERS and have a card.  From what I've heard though the reason for it is that many times spouses would go in when they knew they were getting divorced, and would say they lost their card to get a new one so they had one and still had base access after the divorce.  I don't know how true that is though, but I guess it makes a little more sense.  I still think it's dumb though.

  • Yes so I went and got my new ID today and yes R had to be there.  He had to sign something, and show his ID to two different people.  But  I get them not wanting to hang out Ids to anyone. It's a pain but so is everything else on Post.

I tell people this all the time, but I feel like nobody hears me.

If he gets you the DD1178 form, SIGNED by your H, you don't need him or a POA to get your ID.

And yet, during all the pre-deployment briefings I've been to, they only ever talk about having a SPOA for deers...  I suspect the information is just not being presented well, or is inconsistently presented across the military.
