CC payoff ?

We put our bedroom furniture on a Wells Fargo CC with 0% interest when we bought it last year.  It has to be paid off by October.
We bought a recliner in May, put it on the same CC (also with 0%) and that portion has to be paid off by December.

So, we have 2 subaccounts on this CC.  I'm ready to pay off the portion that's due next month, but my problem is this----how to do I insure that our payment goes towards subaccount 1?  I'm afraid I'll *think* I've paid off the first one and the payment won't be fully applied to the right subaccount.  The WF website sucks, all I can do there is make a payment, I can't even see our remaining balance.  On the paper statement I don't see where I can specify where to apply our payment.  Any thoughts?

Re: CC payoff ?

  • Call and ask / make a payment over the phone?
  • I would think that a call to customer service would solve this.  The place that you send your payment to usually doesn't have the ability to specify funds--they'll just apply it to your balance and be done.  A customer service rep should be able to apply the funds how you want them with no issue after the $$ has posted to your account. (We were able to do this with H's truck when we were paying an overage on the monthly payment in order to pay it down faster--they applied the extra $$ to the next payment, and we were able to call and change it to being applied to the principal amount on the loan instead).

  • Balances are applied on the FIFO method - first in, first out (meaning, the first thing you charge is the first thing that is credited when you make a payment). So, you should be okay but if you are worried about it I would call customer service.

This is good to know.  I called this morning to make the payment and the lady said any amount over the minimum amount due would be applied to the first subaccount (first thing charged), so we should be good.  I'm just paranoid and I hate that I can't look at our account online!
