riding boots + denim skirt = tights?

So I have this skirt, which I love:

And these boots, which I *really* love:

I want to wear them together this fall. Do I need tights? What kind? What color? (My boots are a slightly darker brown.) I never, ever wear tights and I need help!

Re: riding boots + denim skirt = tights?

  • Personally I don't think you NEED tights unless you think you'll be outside a while and cold. I had a similar ourfit going a couple weekends ago - denim skirt with the brown riding boots - and I didn't wear tights. However, if you do wear tights I would wear something closer in color to the boots? It's kind of hard to say when I don't know what color top. If you were going more black up top, you could do black leggings/tights or even gray, maybe.

  • I was going to suggest gray, too...depending on what color shirt you are wearing.

Also, I'm going to suggest wearing a slip if you can. Last winter I loved wearing tights with my denim skirt, but the first couple of times I did it, the fabric of the skirt stuck to the tights and rode up as I walked...very annoying!

  • Too funny. I wore my denim skirt with those boots (LOVE them) last Friday to work. I did not wear tights and I kinda regretted it - my legs got rather itchy under the boots. So, I'd say it's not necessary but may make you happier.
  • I've been wearing my boots with knee socks lately since it's warm enough that I don't need tights for warmth.  It's a decent option if you're not in the "I hate my knees/skin tone" camp.  I like the idea of a heather gray/brown for tights with that color scheme.

Yeah, I usually wear skinny jeans underneath. I think my legs would get sweaty otherwise. And I would probably wearing a purple shirt. Or green sweater. Maybe grey. So grey tights sound good, but ... like, plain tights? Or patterned? Where do you get them? Target? Victoria's Secret? I am clueless.

  • funny you posted this -- dhs company is having a party this weekend - I picked up this dress at Old Navy for $25 over the weekend

and I am pairing it with a thicker brown belt and my Steve Madden boots

I am only wearing knee high socks - as unless its sinking down to 50 degrees - I don't want to get too hot

I normally get my tights at Kohl's or Target. I've also checked out H&M and AT Loft though (both have them too). I'd go with either plain tights (more versatile), or a very subtle pattern.

Macy's, Lord & Taylor or Nordstrom  for tights - Hue brand.

I'm a huge fan of Hue tights - they come in interesting colors and patterns. Are textured tights still available (or in style)?  I got a pair with a herringbone pattern in the weave a few years ago that was fun without being too "out there".

  • I love those boots.  I would ask where they're from, but I really don't need a 3rd pair of riding boots.  Unless they come in black.  Do they come in black?

Oh, and ditto all the above pps.  I also love love love my opaque black tights by Assets (faux Spanx) I got from Target.  They appear to be indestructible.

  • I want those boots! Where are they from? Too cute. I ditto the pps - gray tights would look great :)

  • For everyone asking, these boots are awesome. They are the love of my life. And yes, they come in black. And grey, which I also contemplated. I have the dark brown.

They're Frye Paige riding boots, and they are pricey, but they will last for-EVER (seriously, my dad has 30+ year-old Frye boots).

  • I drool over Frye boots every.single.fall and never manage to buy a pair.  Don't tell me I should just break down and get them! :P
