Stupid cooking question inside...

I'd like to try to make homemade pesto this weekend, and I'm using a recipe that calls for 5 cups of basil... where would one get that much basil? My little plant on my windowsill can provide perhaps a cup or so....

you can buy fresh basil at most grocery stores. harris teeter sells big bunches of basil.

If you can wait until the weekend, most farmer's markets sells big bunches (bigger than you can get in stores), pretty cheap.

You can usually get big bunches at good prices at Korean markets, if there is one near you. Just make sure you buy the correct type of basil.

There is a Korean market over in Wheaton I can check - and the farmer's market is a great idea too... thanks ladies!!

Our Giant has it, but it's in teeny weeny packages for several dollars apiece. So much better to get a big ol' bunch - farmers markets is a good place for that.

whole foods sometimes has big bunches that are still in dirt (so you could start a new plant) and sometimes a big container for only a few bucks more than the tiny packages.

Pesto is really easy, I promise :-) You just throw everything in a food processor and whiz it up. Do you need a recipe? I have a classic one that I always use.

(And you're looking for Genovese basil, not Thai basil or chocolate or purple--if you just smell it, it should smell like basil and not lemon-y or anything else.)
