Pre-approved first time homebuyer. I feel we're a textbook example of things to go wrong.
Found bank-owned home Aug. 7 - 1 other RE card was on counter in 3 1/2 mos. Submit offer, price drops next day - get a competing offer. Go figure.
Must submit best and final by following day. Wait impatiently. Finally hear that bank likes our offer under X conditions. We finally agree to price and conditions.
Inspection great - then we do septic test, find out non-compliant. Lots of banks have paid for these to be fixed (including a lot of our state) - not this time. The asset mgr at bank was re-assigned. The new one is a stickler. Refuses to pay, refuses to go 50/50, refuses to let us escrow funds... switch loans.
Now we'll get the septic fixed. Great....
Closing has changed 3 times...our rental house is rented for 10/1. Waiting on 2nd appraisal after septic bid in - supposed to close last Thurs, then today (find out Fri our appraiser was hospitalized (no joke)), hoping to close THIS Thurs. Either way, we have to be out by Fri.
We'll get there.........and doing all of this with our first baby...will make a good story for him when he's older but right now, LET'S CLOSE (before I kick DH and his attitude to the curb!) Thanks for listening!
Re: We'll get there... ...I hope... :)
Honestly, I'm glad to hear that someone else is having as many problems as we are. You see on tv how these couples are so happy and everything just goes so smoothly and that has not been the case with us either.
We were supposed to close yesterday. We are first time homebuyers and using an FHA loan. We made our offer, went back and forth, and it was accepted. All looked great.
Then we found out that the building's FHA approval expired.
Then our contact with the managment company to get the building re-approved leaves on maternity leave. The new contact doesn't know anything.
As we were supposed to close, we told our current landlord about our closing date and he found a new renter before we learned of the building expiration.
We are now forced to leave our current rental tomorrow and still have no closing date in sight. Not to mention, we are moving in with the rents in the meantime.
Then we found out yesterday that due to the wait (it's been 4 weeks now waiting for the new management contact to get her paperwork together and get the building reapproved) we lost our lock on our low mortgage rate.
Sorry I needed to vent as well. I truly hope all goes well with you!! I was just so happy to find someone else having as many problems trying to buy thier first home as we do. Thanks! : )
Honestly, when I see those commercials or even stupid movies with people buying homes I have to change the channel at the moment before I go into a "it's not nearly that easy!!" rant.

I know this happens every day ...but when it's you and your situation, you think: "I'm the only one...SERIOUSLY."
We are in the same boat and I empathize with your situation.
We are nearing the time when stuff is expiring as well - not happy campers.
We know everyone is working hard to get it finished; afterall, they don't get paid til we close...
Good luck!
Or that cheap, right? They never mention all the extra, surprise costs on House Hunters or My First Place, right?! They just sign the docs, and then *poof*, they have a beautiful, clean new place with a giant TV as a gift. Arrgh HGTV
