Sorry for another streaming netflix question.
We did get our high-speed Wi-Fi last week and I changed our netflix plan to stream via the Wii and I loooooooove it.
Now, we're considering getting a device to stream it in our room. What other devices (besides video game systems) stream?
Re: Sorry for another streaming netflix question.
We have Google TV and LOVE IT!! (Logitec Review is the actual name of the device, but I think it's referred to as Google TV). It's just a little box you buy for $99 at Best Buy. Originally we had Apple TV and also really good, but DH wanted to be able to surf the net, so we took it back and got the Google TV.
If you are big into Apple, like you have pics/music/movies, etc on your Apple devices, then you can do home sharing and all your music and pics, etc will then show up on your TV via the Apple TV box. I go back and forth on which one I liked better. I think we probably would have hung on to the Apple TV if we thought about it more just for the sharing aspect of things since we mostly just do netflix on both devices, but I think DH really wanted the internet option, so he's happy with the Google device.
Thanks, S. Now, forgive my stupidity, but Google TV acts like a computer, kind of? That I can stream through?
H has an iPod that he's addicted to, but again, I know next to nothing about that technology, either, and since this would be in our bedroom, I don't *think* we'd have much use for sharing stuff via the iPod.
This all really makes me feel out of the loop! I'm beginning to understand how grandmas feel about all this techie stuff!
Oh yeah, duh! Geez, I should just have Jack hook all this up; he probably knows more than I do!
Yep. Here's a little walk through of the screens, things it can do:
http://www.google.com/tv/
We haven't downloaded any apps for it or anything like that, mostly Netflix and web. The search feature is nice because you type something in like "Dexter" and it will show you all the TV listings for it, all the Netflix episodes you can watch, all the internet searches it finds, etc.
if you have Dish TV you can also use it as a DVR.
When you are searching and stuff, it comes up right on the TV overlaying what you are currently watching, so you can be watching 'regular' TV, and still pull up the Google TV search and stuff...if you find a TV show you want to watch, then you select it and it stays on the 'normal' TV, if you find something on Netflix, then it just loads it up for you.
