After being sent to L&D on both Tues & Thurs for high blood pressure, I knew the end was near. When I went on Thurs, they had threatened to keep me and take her then, had my bp not gone down.
My mother has hypertension and uses a home monitor. She told me I could borrow it for the week to keep tabs on it. When I got home from work on Fri, I walked my chihuahua down our driveway, over 2 houses and back. This very short walk caused my bp to skyrocket to 179/101. So, I just layed down on my side for awhile and waited for it to lower. About an hour later, I started to have a bad back-ache (probably due to how I was laying) so I decided to take a bath. As I started to lower myself into the tub, I felt faintish. Not wanting to pass out in the tub, I decided a bath wasn't so good of an idea. As soon as I got out of the tub, I totally lost my dinner. (TMI-sorry!). Since my discharge instructions from the day before said to call if I had a stomach ache or just didn't feel "right", we decided to call the on-call OB. They told us to go to L&D for monitering.
Thinking that this may be "it", we put all our bags in the car, loaded up the dog dishes with food/water (in case they had to wait the night before we came home or someone came to get them) and headed over. After having several really high bp readings, they determined that they would move the c/s to either that night or the following morning (originally scheduled for 9/30 due to her being breech) b/c they just didn't want to take any chances.
The next day, we just had to wait for that day's doc to come in. After they ran some b/w, the doc came in and told me that the baby would be born w/in the hour ! We had zero time to think as they called for the anesthesiologist so that they could start the process.
Gabriella Marie was born at 10:20 am on Sat 9/24. She weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and 18.5 inches long and has a full head of hair ![]()
Now for a vent:
Recovery has been ok. They started me on a patient-controlled morphine drip but I didn't like how I felt on it (very nauseous, "fuzzy" feeling, shaking, etc) so I only used it when I really felt the pain. When the shift change came in today, one bitchy nurse started to lecture me on how I should be using the pain stuff more. When I told her I didn't like how the morphoine was making me feel and also how I don't like taking stuff unless I feel I REALLY needed it, she offered me either motruim or percocets instead. I also told her how I was afraid to hold the baby, while on the morphine, due to how it make me seriously shake. Since I'm not a fan of percs, I opted for the mortium and told them that if that didn't work, we'd go for the stronger stuff. Well, when the next shift change just happend for today, the new nurse came in and said "so, I hear you are refusing pain management?" Ummm, no, I just don;'t want to take anything unless I feel I need to. Apparently, that other nurse wrote that in my file b/c of how I didn't use the morphine all that often and opted for motrium over percs. Geeze ! At least this nurse was nice and understood where I came from. She told me that I may want to just take it at night so that I can sleep, so I agreed. I know I underwent a major surgery but why should I be forced to take pain stuff ( morphine/percocets) if I don't feel I need them or don't like how I feel while on them.

First of all, Congrats again!!! She is so adorable!
I'm glad that both you and baby are healthy and doing well!
Now, in regards to your vent. I dealt with the same exact problem with the pain management after my c/s, except after two very pushy nurses I did just have them write that I will request meds when I want them because they were pushing the morphine like CRAZY and I didn't want it. I got really really itchy when I was coming off the epi which has some morphine in it so I really didn't want any more of that. I stuck to just motrin in pill form which got me through just fine by taking it every six hours and we just set an alarm on one of our phones to remind us to call the nurse for it. It's easier for them to just hook you up and drug you out because they don't have to keep up with it as much which I understand to an extent because I know they're busy but if that's not what the patient wants, you shouldn't push it. Again though, I'm so glad everything worked out for you and you got a nurse who was more understanding!
Congratulations, A, she's beautiful!
Stand up for something you believe in.
She's beautiful, congrats again!
And I'm seriously impressed by all that hair too, I think she even beats Kyler for thickest head of hair at birth!
Look at all that hair!! She's beautiful, congratulations
Sorry the nurse was being a b!tch. I hate when docs/nurses try to make you do things their way when there are other options.

Hate that you had to deal with idiots at the hospital!

Congratulations! She is beautiful:) You guys have waited for her arrival for so long, hope you are enjoying every moment (when the nurses aren't being beeatches).

She is just beautiful! Congrats
Congratulations!! How beautiful! Love her hair!
And P.S. that nurse is a douche nozzle. When I was in the ER for my kidney stone, they kept trying to push pain meds on me as well. By the time I got into the ER, the pain was a dull throb instead of a nasty stabby ache, so regular motrin/ibuprofin was fine. They wanted to put me on a drip. Sometimes they just don't listen.
