need some gift ideas for a 5 yo girl

A got invited to a b-day party for a girl in his preschool class this weekend.  The invitation just got dropped in his mailbox this week (Grrr) so I have to run out to toys r us saturday morning & get a gift for the party that afternoon.

Need some ideas on what to get a 5 year old girl.  Art set?  some sort of game?  I think it was around 5 that my niece started getting into Polly Pocket & Littlest Pet Shop but I have no clue if this girl is into those.

Re: need some gift ideas for a 5 yo girl

  • If her ear's are pierced i'd get a cute pair of Hello Kitty earrings or kids earrings at Kohls. My niece also loves Aqua Doodle Toys R Us...Barbie...or just be safe and go with a gift card.
  • My SIL gave Ava her "vintage" polly pockets a few weeks ago. She's 4 and seems to like them a lot. She also likes my little pony, strawberry shortcake and she loves Barbie.

She also loves crafts and any kit for it.

you could also just go to a claire's and buy a little purse, a kiddie lipgloss (ava loves loves loves her gloss - lol!), a headband,  barrettes - girlie stuff. I think you could that for $20 or less too.

  • thanks.  I like the purse & accessories idea.  I was talking to a co-worker who also suggested getting an art or craft set so I may check AC Moore for something like that.  Plus I can use the 40% off coupon...bonus!

Can you tell I've been in boys land for too long that I have no idea when it comes to buying girls toys??  LOL

  • most of our friends have boys, and i feel stumped every time we have a birthday party!

but i'm getting the hang of it - superhero anything for ages 4+, thomas for younger...right?! either way, i give a gift receipt and they can do what they want!

i also sometimes like to buy character pj's and a matching book.

haha, you got it!  Anything Toy Story & Cars is also a good bet.  Nice to hear it goes the other way for those with girls ;)   I do gift receipts too, that is when I remember to put them in the card.

  • At 5, my niece was really into Barbie, still is.  I just always give her a gift receipt so if she doesn't like it she can get what she wants.

  • I am so stealing these ideas; we have our neice's 5th bday party on Saturday.  She's obsessed with Tangled, but I think everyone will be buying that for her.  Glad to get some variety.
