I Want To Scream

I'm having the worst day.

DH spent the money we were saving for our new dining room set. I needed to order it this week for it to be here by Thanksgiving and now I can't. My whole family was thinking of coming to visit for the holiday but now I have to tell them they can't because we don't have anywhere for them to sit.

DS screams bloody murder every time I put him down. I was trying to put dishes away while holding him and dropped a cast iron pot on our glass top stove, which shattered into a million pieces. It looks like that's a $500 repair, another nail in the coffin on our dining room set and Thanksgiving.

Re: I Want To Scream

  • I'm sorry, that sucks big time. What did your H buy? I'd say he owes you big time; that's pretty disrespectful.
  • It's never just one thing that goes wrong, everything always has to happen at once. I'm sorry about the wrench in your Thanksgiving plans. Hopefully something good will turn up out of all of this!

He made a second credit card payment, after I already paid the bill 3 weeks ago when it was due, because he didn't bother to look at the online statement before making the payment.

  • UGH!  Pour yourself a big glass of wine when DS goes to bed tonight.  Is he sick or teething or just going through the "I want to be attached to Mommy's hip" phase?

I'd be mighty pissed about DH spending the money as well.

  • I second Sgt M with the glass of wine. The "screams" must be going around today.  I have had one heck of a day!

Partly it's the "I want to be attached to Mommy's hip" phase, but partly it's the "I just got back from visiting my grandparents who never ever ever ever put me down" phase.

And because we were gone for two weeks, my house needs an overhaul because DH's housekeeping skills are, um, less than stellar. But instead of dealing with it I'm nesting and eating Honey Nut Cheerios by the fistful now that DS is finally sleeping.

Ah I see. Come on Mel's H, be aware! This does indeed call for wine. I hope your day picks up from here!
  • That totally sucks. :( I hope your day gets better!
  • Oh no. :( That does totally suck. I am sorry.

  • See if you can get anyone to let you borrow some folding tables and chairs. Then go buy some cheap table cloths. That's what I would do.

I know it won't help with DS screaming, though.

I'm sorry you had such a rough day.

And as far as the bold, my parents had to do this a few years ago. It was their year to host Christmas Eve for my Dad's Family and our 6 person dinning room table plus the 4 barstools at the bar in the kitchen weren't going to cut it. Mom and I bought some pretty matching table cloths and through them over our 6ft tables that she used for Pampered Chef and my aunt brought chairs. Then we just moved it all out of the way when we were done. Worked out great!

  • Sorry you are having such a rough day! Hope DS mellows and lets you have a little bit of quiet mommy time :)

Also, I'm not usually a proponent of making big purchases on CCards, but since your H used the money to pay down the card balance, you can justify using it to purchase the dining set because you had legitimately saved the money anyway! :)

I know outdoor rec on AFB rent out folding tables and chairs, and they are pretty affordable.

  •  That's awful.  Hopefully things will start going the right way for you. I love visiting the Grandparents but it's always the worst when you get home and try to get back to normal and they want to be held all the time.

I thought about this, but the company we are buying from gives 10% off for paying cash. I don't want to lose that 10% and then have interest charges on top of it.

I think we can swing getting the table and chairs if we don't buy the china cabinet for a few more weeks.
