how far along were you when you found out the gender?

We go in two weeks for another ultrasound and to hopefully find out the gender of the baby.  I will only be 16 weeks and  I am thinking that it will be too early to tell.  I am happy to go anyway to get to see her again, but Idk what will happen if they can't tell (when will we get to go back again).  Those of you who are prego/have kids, how far along were you when you found out the gender?

  • I was 20 weeks when I found out gender AND how many were in there.
  • had you had other ultrasounds? I read about people that had one or mote ultrasounds before they discovered there were two babies!

  • I was 18 weeks :-) I still have some slight paranoia that the doctor was wrong and that she'll end up being a boy with a lot of pink clothes. We'll find out soon!

  • I was 17 weeks when I found out and they were right.
  • At my 20 week appt when they did the full anatomy scan. Are you doing 4 week appointments right now? If so you should find out at 20 weeks unless your doc does them sooner.
  • I had an elective U/S at 17w6d and they were right.  It was confirmed at 19w5d at our A/S and again with the high risk MFM people at 21w.

FWIW, we had an U/S at 12w3d and using the "angle of the dangle" website Chelsea posted I was able to "determine" girl with my completely untrained eye, so I'm willing to bet a tech/doctor can tell with good certainty by 16 weeks.

  • Both of mine were 20 weeks, but I'd think at 16 weeks you'd be pretty likely to find out the gender.

  • I was 17 weeks. I think they SHOULD be able to tell at 16 weeks, but they probably won't "guarantee."

  • I found out at 16 weeks with my twins.  Boy and Girl were VERY obvious even to me!

If the baby is cooperating, you should be able to tell :)  GOOD LUCK!

  • I'm jealous if you get to find out that early! My doc says 20 weeks but I'm hoping he'll let me push that up a little closer to 18, because I'm impatient. :)

  • If memory serves, I was supposed to find out at 18, but the appt had to be pushed back to 20 or 21.  It was plain as day at that point.

No I had not had any U/S at that point. My doc did not do them early and we opted not to do the NT scan at 13 weeks.  Looking back I wish I would of so it wouldn't of been such a shock at 20 weeks! haha!!

The funny thing is we did the dopppler at every appt. and not once did she detect two different heartbeats!

  • I was being monitored with biweekly ultrasounds in second tri, so I found at 16 weeks and they were right. I didn't believe it until it was confirmed again at 18 weeks, though ;-)

  • 38 weeks.  Doctors are so accustomed to parents knowing the gender, I had to ask, "What is it?!  What is it?!  Can someone please tell me if I birthed a girl or a boy?"

  • 16wks by my neighbor who claimed that her "traveling" u/s machine wasn't as good as the ones that were stationary at the doctors and hospitals. I didn't start buying anything pink until she confirmed it again at 18wks for me. I thought it was too good to be true that I was having a girl, lol.

  • I guess he is chosing to do it sooner.  Yes, I am going every 4 weeks.  I went last at 14 weeks and he told me to go in 2 weeks for the ultrasound (they don't do them in office).

  • He originally said he's have us wait till atleast 18, but then when we went for the next appointment he said we can go at 16 (I didn't ask to have it any sooner or anything)...so I was arguing!

  • That's crazy!  I have had people ask me if it's twins already! LoL. But it's really just bloating. 20 weeks is a long time to wait for an ultrasound!

  • Yeah, I am sure that if they tell us something at 16 weeks I am gonna be weary until I get a little farther along.

Awesome! That's exciting! Mine wouldn't do it before 20 weeks but they do them in their office so maybe that's why. I can't wait to see which team you're on :)

  • First off, OH MY GOSH!  YAY!  You're pregnant!  I am super duper excited for you!  I wish you an easy nine months!

I was 40 weeks when I found out the gender :)  I highly suggest going team green.  It's totally worth the wait and I plan on doing it for the next baby (if it ever happens).

Ha, me too!  When they announced I had a girl they mumbled "it's a girl" thinking we knew the sex.  When I was like "OH MY GOD, it's a girl" the doctor asked if the ultrasound showed a boy.  I told him we opted not to find out and he looked shocked and said "No body does that nowadays".

    So glad I waited.

  • Thank you!!!  So far the first 3 months haven't been too bad!

I could never ever ever go team green!  I can't wait to know!  Plus, I am a pink or blue kinda gal, and don't care much for yellow and green (no offense)!

  • We found out at 16 weeks with DS and at 18 weeks with new DS. I have no doubt they will be able to tell you so long as the baby is cooperating.
  • I will be 20 weeks when we find out next week!
  • that is great to hear! :)
