Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

Mental Health Days

Do you think these should be offered by your employer? (A reasonable number of days, of course)

  • We get PTO which includes vacation, sick, mental health, etc.

    I think I'd feel kinda weird calling in & saying I needed a mental health day actually.

  • I would feel weird saying it like that. I would feel bad for calling out sick and not being sick. Karma can be a biatch, to me.

  • Ditto CD- to me, if you're company just has PTO in general, it covers everything. Although I would just say "I need to take a PTO day," not a mental health day.

  • I have used PTO days as mental health days.

  • We have a pool of annual and a pool of sick with different accrual rates. If I need an unplanned mental health day I would call in sick.

  • We have personal days, that's what I use it for sometimes.
  • We have vacation and then a few personal choice holidays (which is basically just another week of vacation), but we also have flex time so we can take a Friday off and make up the hours the next week. As long as the work gets done, it's not a big deal. I also work from home so I consider every day a mental health day. :)

  • I would hesitate saying it in that way. Usually I just tell him I have to take a day to 'conduct some personal business,' and since he doesn't care about me as a person, that's enough to make him not ask.
  • I don't know if they should offer mental health days, specifically.  I accrue a lot of PTO and if I want to take a mental health day, I just tell my boss I'm taking a mental health day.  No big deal.  Fortunately my company is pretty laidback.  As long as you're getting your work done, they don't really care.
