This should maybe go under one of the "ArtPrize" posts. L and I might be heading to ArtPrize this Friday evening and would want to do dinner downtown as well. Ideally we would spend in the $10 range per person for dinner. Any great suggestions? Bonus points if they'll take reservations for 2 and bonus points if they are in a good spot relative to walking ArtPrize.
Also, anyone with AP experience, would it be better to eat dinner around 5:30 when we first meet up and then walk around after? Or walk and then eat dinner later like 7:30 or so? I'll also take parking (preferably for free) tips. I know we can park in the GVSU lot for free after 5 and we don't mind walking, is that an okay spot to start from?
Re: Inexpensive downtown dinner recs?
There are likely to be large crowds, being the start of the first AP weekend, so I'd probably eat early and walk/look after. No dinner/reservation recommendations, sorry.
ETA: Major brain fart. There's already been a weekend of AP. Still, I'd eat first.

I can't think of anyplace downtown that takes reservations and has a $10/person range. Especially during AP.
We just went downtown last night. Parsley is on Monroe Center, and centrally located for roaming. I had grape leaves and fatoosh wrap for about $10.
As far as parking, it'll kind of be park where you can. We drove around looking for a few minutes and wound up parking in an Ellis ramp for $3. Your park and walk plan should be fine.
Do you like Thai? If so, Angel's on Monroe Center would fit your price range and is a great location in the center of it all. I doubt they take reservations though.
You could also get a pizza at Big O's, also well located. Probably no reservations.
We love Hopcat and the food is in your price range. We always spend much more on beer, though.
I would definitely eat at 5:30. The later it gets, the harder time you'll have getting into a restaurant. The restaurants have been packed with ArtPrize visitors.
Have fun!
You could try Bullshead for dinner across from the Amway. Apps and sandwiches are $10 and under. I believe they take reservations.

Any dietary restrictions?
If not, and you guys are open to going super lowkey, I would say check out the puled pork sandwiches in front of the Grand Plaza on Monroe. They have a huge smoker out front and white linen covered table in front of it. We ate the sandwiches last year and they were pretty good. (We sat in Rosa Parks circle)
One Stop Coney shop on Fulton has a huge menu of unusual hotdog toppings (Alfredo for one) and Belgian fries. They offer different dipping sauces for the fries - the curry mayo is my favorite. So good.
Gilmore restaurants have $1.99 happy hour from 2-6pm on Fridays. That would include Ottawa tavern. It used to include sliders and flatbread pizzas. Not sure if it still does.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be floating everything by L and see what he picks. I figured that *all* of my requests might not be possible, but you never know unless you ask, right?
Pizza is the only thing that's probably a no-go for me. During the week there are often free lunches to bribe us to attend student group meetings and it's usually pizza. Even though crappy pizza=/=good pizza, I definitely feel like I get my fill of pizza at school.
Thanks! I just sent them a reservation request as backup plan. Bullshead looks somewhat similar to our beloved Hearthstone in Muskegon.
No dietary restrictions. Thanks for these suggestions as well.
They provided the late-evening food at our friends' wedding. YUM.

And I agree with MB. We've done quickie meals pretty much ever since ArtPrize started. Too much art to sit around eating.
If you want to start at What the Truck, grab food and go from there, you can park in the Spectrum visitor's lot for free after 4 p.m. It's at the corner of LaGrave and Weston, with the entrance on LaGrave. The gates will be up after 4. From there, you're across the street from The Hub (ArtPrize headquarters) on Sheldon, and What the Truck is just a block away at the corner of Sheldon and Fulton.
Chymes, it's great to have an in-house ArtPrize expert
That sounds like a fantastic plan.
Are you working on Friday evening by chance?
We're afraid it will rain tomorrow, but I'm planning to pick up an umbrella tomorrow (which I need for school anyway) and I'll wear my wellies.
ETA: We're afraid it will rain Friday. Clearly I'm really excited about this weekend.
I AM working Friday night, as a matter of fact. I'll be parking in that same parking lot and grabbing a rice bowl at the truck around 4:30 p.m. before my shift.
