Mariela & CD update

Mari had her 18 month appt yesterday and she's doing well.  She's ahead in speech, 21lb 8oz (10th percentile), and 32 3/4" long (75th percentile).  Long and lean like her Papi and doing perfect.  I've been concerned about her teeth for a few weeks now and had her pedi check them.  Come to find out Mari has an extra right upper lateral incisor I have to have my dentist look at.  Both of which are turned at 90 degrees to be able to fit.  Right now it's just a cosmetic thing, so provided that there isn't severe overcrowding and her adult teeth aren't impacted she'll just get extra money from the tooth fairy someday.  They can't see the impact to her adult teeth unless they do an x-ray and at this point they'll probably just want to wait it out provided the canine next to it comes in fine.

We survived week 1 of CDs and so far I'm liking it.  Alexi still isn't on board, but he has tried to change two diapers.  The first he got on her, but it leaked badly (out the thighs) in our bed while we napped.  NOT a good impression.  He gave up the 2nd time.  I wasn't with him, but MIL was and offered to help him and show him how and he refused and just put her in a disposable.  At least he's tried!  I still think he'll come around.  We are having slight ammonia issues with her MF inserts at the moment.  Some of them smell funky when she pees a lot in them (not sure if it's just her toddler urine??) and they also come out of washer smelling funky.  I've still been trying to figure a wash routine that works with our HE FLer, so that is part of it.  I'm trying Oxi-clean now and it's helping but not a cure-all.  I'll probably strip all inserts this weekend with Dawn in my sink and then rinse in the washer until bubble free and go from there.  I might also try boiling them.  Any suggestions are welcome.

Re: Mariela & CD update

  • MF is NOTORIOUS for stink, we don't have any though.

Did you order any ZORB inserts?

Honestly, If I was you I wouldn't be amused with Alexi, I think he needs to give it a solid try but that's me and I'm pregnant and hormonal so take it FWIW.

What are you using to wash your CD's?

p.s. It'll be a few hours before I can answer I'm off to teach spin

  • Heather, I had stinkies with my MF inserts and washed just the inserts with a little bleach (like just a few tablespoons) and it cured the stinkies. I ran an extra wash with no deterget to make sure they were completely clear of the bleach.

You might want to try that before the dawn... it is way less time intensive.

I am glad that it is going well so far Smile I hope Alexi comes around and sees that they aren't that bad.

Yes, I ordered some of the ZORB inserts and will have to still finish them when they arrive.  I think they are still a couple weeks out, though.  I've been using Tide original.  The covers are fine and most of the inserts are, it's just a few of them and the ones that look a little older than the others.

No offense taken.  I was annoyed with him at first, but we've talked about it and he is going to make an effort going forward.  He hasn't been home much when M is awake the last week as he's been working rediculously long hours, so that's part of why he hasn't changed more diapers.  She's been in bed before he's gotten home.  The one that leaked on Saturday was a BG and it wasn't his fault...the snaps don't fit her skinny thighs well.  I'm reselling that one.  I'm going to show him on a Sunbaby again how to do the snaps as I find those a bit easier than the Kawaiis and the Nubonz.  On Sunday, I think he was just embarassed with all the input from his family and them trying to watch him do it as they hadn't seen them yet and he doesn't like pressure like that.  He confirmed last night what he does with the dirty diapers (take insert out and put both in pail), so he has no excuse going forward.

I do gag at cleaning her poopie ones myself, so I can't fault him for that.  We need a toilet sprayer!

  • I'm not sure if you can on the BG, but on my OhKatys, you can snap the lower snaps tighter than the upper ones. Nice for the skinny legs.
  • honestly, I know some people can use tide but a lot can't.

Do you have a natural grocery store around you? Some people like country save (some say it is rough on baby's skin)

We use crunchy clean and love it (the hard water formula)

Rockin green was terrible for us.

I've also heard good things about dropps.

I second running them through a bleach cycle ;)
