Voted for 3. I've always wanted 3; a heir, a spare, and 1 just in case. DH leans towards 2, but it's really going to depend on how easily we can procreate once we decide to, and how we handle all the adjustments from the 1st pregnancy and infant.

we want 2. if we have 2 boys first, we'll try for a 3rd.. hopefully we'll get a girl.
but we'll stop after that. unless somehow i'm a billionaire.. then i'll have like 5. 
He doesn't hate furbabies. It's more like he doens't want to take on the responsibility of one.

We're aiming for 2 to start.
If they're bio-kids, we plan on adopting sometime in the future, once our children are old enough to not feel weird about it (and only if they're ok with it).
If we have no bio-kids, D would rather adopt babies. If we have bio-kids, we're agreed on adopting whatever age.
We've also vaguely discussed fostering children once our own (whether adopted or not) are older.

We have compromised at 3.
I'm an only and DH is the second oldest of 5. His bro has 4 girls and his sister has 4 kids also. I don't want 4, that seems like too many! Three seems just right!
