Do you know if there is any way you can prevent someone from using your address for things? I'm pretty sure the previous owner of our house is in a bit of financial trouble. We're getting bills of hers, court summons, have had a repo man show up and someone else just 2 weeks ago knocked on our door looking for her. She moved out last July and we bought the home in December. Shocker, it was a foreclosure.
Its not that big of a deal right now, but I don't want it to get out of hand. And I'm a little scared that someone might take some action against us.
Re: Do you know if...
I'm not sure how you would prevent someone from just using it. We still get random bank statements at our house for the old owners, and we bought 5 years ago. We also got a huge play kitchen that they ordered on Amazon and they accidentally used their old address stored in Amazon.
What kind of action are you afraid of someone taking? A repo guy isn't going to just take any old vehicle in the driveway. You can notify the court that it is no longer her address and you can put the mail back in your box with a note "recipient no longer owns this property/resides at this address," but I don't think there is much else you can do. That seriously sucks though.

The mail items I'm not too worried about, I usually just write on the item "no longer at this address, return to sender."
I'm more worried about the random people coming to my door. We don't live directly off a road, but back a ways. There are houses in front of us if that makes any sense But the woman, her kids and ex husband all have criminal records.
Understandable. Do you have motion sensor spot lights on the part of the house that leads to the main door? I don't think they would be expensive to install and might make you feel safer? My parents live in an older neighborhood and their house is surrounded by very mature trees (so isolated that no one saw some suspected teenagers draw a 7 foot penis in ketchup on their driveway in the afternoon) and at night it is pitch black, so they had these installed on the side of the house where they exit and enter and it does make them feel safe.
That sucks but at the same time it's kind of hilarious! Mostly that it was drawn in ketchup...

Oh it's totally hilarious! My parents were pissed, but really it was just ketchup, it washed off, but the acid left the outline for like a week, there was no permanent damage. My sister, DH and I could not stop laughing when my mom called, super pissed about the 7 foot penis in ketchup on their driveway. Ah, I'm laughing again now just thinking about it
