The Big C-Spoilers

Best show on TV. What a shocker season finale. I was not expecting that AT ALL. I cried, as always. This show is just the best. Not all ohhh, it's so funny and I have to like it because everyone else does (like HIMYM). The Big C is just, wow.

Re: The Big C-Spoilers

  • I wasn't expecting it either.  So well done.  Could cry just thinking of it.  I am so affected by this show!

  • Wow. It was fantastic. The moment Paul walked up to the race, I knew what was happening- but it was done so perfectly.

    I love this show.

  • I agree, this show is amazing! I did not see the ending coming at all. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out next season.

  • I was shocked too. I'm really hoping that he ends up okay though.

Paul snorted coke and then went to the New Year's Eve party at the insurance company to face-off with the woman who'd pre-approved one of Cathy's medical procedures but then was denying the benefits. He ranted and raved at her in front of the rest of the insurance staff, and toward the end of his ranting, began holding his chest.

Cathy, meanwhile, was running her marathon. It had taken her forever, but she was finally closing in on the finish line. Adam and Sean were there waiting for her, cheering her on. Off to the side, Lee appeared, hand over his heart and mouthing "thank you" to her for running his race. Behind him appeared Maureen.

And finally, Paul appeared, somewhere between the living and the dead. Cathy said, with tears in her eyes, "everybody's here," and Adam said "yeah, except Dad, I'm sorry Mom, I don't know where he is" (or something along those lines). Cathy finally realizes what's happened and collapses, staring in shock - Paul is standing with the dead, not the living.

Camera flips to Paul, on the floor, being worked on by paramedics in the insurance office.

  • Anyone think maybe Paul didnt die? Like it was amidst him either dying or staying that the end of race scene was happening and when the season starts he will be alive?
  • It was an amazing episode!!  I was bawling at the end.  Lee's thank you was so touching.  I noticed that Paul walked by Lee a little funny.  First thought was poor directing or spacing on the set, then I realized what was going on.  I wasn't expecting Paul to be dead.  It was heart-wrenching when Cathy realized that Paul was dead.

My guess is that Paul will survive.  The paramedics were working on him, so there is the chance that he will be back.  If not, he will "appear" at some point in the show.

The Big C is one of my favorite shows. I recommend it to everyone! It is very witty and has some great humor. (Shawn's line about going down on a woman used to be like kissing a lion was priceless.)  Love the MN humor!

I can hardly wait for next season!!

  • I just finished the finale and am still crying. I started at the end of Paul's speech when he was talking about Cathy dying and not being able to afford the house. I started thinking (morbidly) which could I handle better if my husband died- living in our house or not living in it?? Sad

When he put his hand to his chest I didn't know what to think but I knew something was up. Still, the scene at the end blew me away. I thought Cathy was going to collapse after all that she put her body through with the marathon. Of course they didn't do the obvious!

    What a great show.

SN: I wish Laura Linney had won the Emmy last week. She's so phenomenal because she's hilarious and yet also playing such a deep and complicated role so brilliantly.

  • I have a feeling that he's going to be revived and live - it just seems like the easy way out. I was so shocked but thought the episode was fantastic. I hope poor Adam doesn't end up an orphan.
